Due to strange scheduling Montreal and Ottawa will face off for the second straight day.
Montreal came out and played the kind of game that would excite home fans as they took 50 shots on goal. However luck was not on their side as Senators goalie Craig Anderson was on fire the entire night with one terrific save after another.
Ottawa got on the board first when Erik Karlsson deflected a shot on a rush up the ice. The score remained 1-0 until Montreal tied it at a 13:09 mark of the second period. The Canadiens persisted in a strong fore check and the puck eventually made its way to Rene Bourque. The winger moved around to the right side of Anderson and backhanded it over his shoulder to tie the game. 59 seconds later, the Canadiens took the lead on the power play when Thomas Plekanec found an open Brenden Gallagher; the latter snuck the puck past Anderson.
The Canadiens held on to the lead until Jakub Silfverberg snuck a shot through Montreal keeper Carey Price. The Senators took the lead for good when the Canadiens coughed up the puck in their own zone. The Senators cycled the puck around until Marc Methot rifled a shot from the point that hit the top of the net. Guillaume Latendresse added an insurance goal at the 13:55 mark.

The Ottawa Senators aren’t your typical 7-seed in the NHL Playoffs, and they showed that in Game 1 of their Quarterfinal series against the Montreal Canadiens. Coming into the series, the Sens were something not a lot of team are: healthy. It’s a cliché, but being healthy truly does put you on another level and Ottawa showed that by trouncing the Habs in Game 1, winning by two goals.
It’s still a long series, and the Sens have work to do in order to upset the Habs, but many people predicted that Ottawa would be a tough opponent to beat and that proved true in Game 1. The questions everyone’s wondering is will the Sens be able to keep up the momentum in Game 2 or will Montreal be able to get a game back and even the series?
