The club looks much different than it did a year ago.
Who knows how tired Howard will be, but with Everton still winless and currently sitting 15th, expect the 34-year-old to be between the sticks for this one.
The biggest addition for Everton over the summer is a player Chelsea fans are familiar with—striker Romelu Lukaku. He has been loaned out by the Blues for a second straight year and makes no bones about the fact he is pulling for his new club in this ESPNFC story.
The reason the 20-year-old was loaned out again probably had to do with the signing of Samuel Eto’o (Anzhi Makhachkala), who suffered a slight injury for his native Cameroon against Libya in World Cup qualifying earlier this week.
However, Eto’o was training with Chelsea mid-week and may see his first action for the team here on Saturday.
Other Blues players notable by their absence this season are Juan Mata, David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta. Expect all three to get some playing time now the Premier League has revved up and the Champions League is on the not-so-distant horizon.
New signing Willian (Anzhi Makhachkala) should get some valuable minutes so don’t expect any regular starting XI’s from manager Jose Mourinho for the time being as he seeks chemistry from new players who have never played together.
With Lukaku now at Everton, Demba Ba shaky in his recent appearances and 32-year-old Eto’o still unfamiliar with teammates—and possibly nursing a minor injury—expect Fernando Torres to again be the preferred starter up front if Mourinho stays with a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Another player who may start is Andre Schurrle, especially with both Lukaku and Victor Moses (Liverpool) out on loan. So far Schurrle has been impressive when used across the attack but Lukaku and Moses are two incredible talents not to have room for.
Chelsea and goalkeeper Petr Cech have allowed just one goal this season but the Blues should really have their work cut out for them on the road here against Howard and Everton.

In their last 10 meetings, the clubs are 3-4-3, each with 14 goals. Both had 0-0 draws in their last league games so scoring could be at a premium. In this Goodison meeting last season, the Blues were 2-1 winners.
Chelsea is favorite here but this one will be too close to call so why not take a little chance wagering the draw and hope for a 0-0, 1-1 or 2-2 final score?
Makes sense as the Blues haven’t exactly looked world-beaters on offense yet, and the unbeaten but winless Toffees and Leighton Baines will do everything to get their first three points— they will at least put up one helluva fight on home soil.
With both sides coming off the international break and 0-0 scores last time out in Premier League play, an equally small play on the under also makes sense.

 Leicester will be without suspended midfielder Matty James when they resume Sky Bet Championship action against Wigan at the King Power Stadium.

Arsenal will be without Tomas Rosicky (hip) for the visit to Wearside, although Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott are both available after coming through their international outings with England unscathed.
For Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio, it has been a tough a start to the campaign, with his side yet to record a win in the league - a 1-1 draw with Southampton sandwiched between defeats to Fulham and Crystal Palace, leaving the club 19th in the table.
The Italian will not be happy to hear either that Sunderland have won just one of their last nine home games against Arsenal in the Premier League.
Di Canio has made three new additions to his squad since the 3-1 defeat at Selhurst Park last time out, bringing in Ki Sung-Yueng, Andrea Dossena and Fabio Borini before the window closed.
The latter is on loan from Liverpool and has targeted a regular run in Di Canio's side after struggling with injuries over recent seasons.

"My first thought is to have a clear season with nothing major happening," he told The Sunderland Echo.
“I've always proved myself in the short-term – Swansea was a three-month loan (where he scored six in eight Championship starts) and then it was three months at Roma before injuries.
"I would like at least six or seven months without getting injured, which would mean all season."
Sunderland could welcome back Lee Cattermole while strikers Jozy Altidore and Steven Fletcher are also both available for selection.
However, they will be without the suspended John O'Shea as well as Craig Gardner (groin) and Phil Bardsley (ankle).

Bournemouth's new signing Tokelo Rantie has been granted a UK visa and could make his debut in Saturday's Sky Bet Championship clash with Blackpool at Dean Court.

Manager Eddie Howe confirmed his record signing had gained the necessary paperwork, but he is yet to arrive in the country after international duty and his new manager will leave it late before making the call.
Winger Matt Ritchie is "not too far away" according to Howe having been missing since pre-season but the former Burnley boss has been keeping his cards close to his chest on his two other absentees.

The 27-year-old - who is in line to make his debut on Saturday - enjoyed the most productive season of his career under Hughes at the Etihad Stadium in 2008-09, when he scored nine Premier League goals.
And the former Republic of Ireland international cannot wait to work with the 49-year-old and his coaching team again.

"They are all really good people, and I mean it when I say that I am excited to be here working with them again, they are the best coaching staff that I have ever had," he told Stoke's official matchday programme.
Hughes has a fully fit squad to choose from for the game - a luxury not enjoyed by the man in the opposite dug-out.
Pellegrini will again be without captain Vincent Kompany, who is continuing to recover from a groin injury, while new signing Martin Demichelis is expected to be out for around another month with a knee problem and Micah Richards (hamstring) remains absent.
Playmaker David Silva is also a doubt after suffering a minor thigh complaint while on international duty with Spain.

Freedman plans to assess the ex-United striker’s condition tomorrow morning, hours before Leeds and Bolton Wanderers meet at the Reebok Stadium.

Mackay is confident that Conway, who submitted a transfer request last season in his search for regular first-team football, will respond to the snub in the best possible manner.
He said: "This was not a cold hard decision. Me and my staff sat down and chatted. We looked right across the squad and tried to come up with the correct balance and we believe we have done that.
"But also I believe it is for the best for Craig too. He is player who is really establishing himself with Scotland at international level under Gordon (Strachan).
"To do that he will need to be playing games and that was going to prove difficult here."
Scottish duo Allan McGregor (groin) and George Boyd (ankle) should be available for Hull, despite missing international duty, while Sone Aluko is struggling with a hamstring injury and Yannick Sagbo will serve the last game of a three-match ban.

However, Abdoulaye Faye could return, having come through a reserve fixture in the week, much to Bruce's delight.
"I would never want to pick out individuals but one of the big reasons we're at the level we are today was big Abdoulaye," Bruce told The Hull Daily Mail.
"He was terrific in those last few months of the season. It's great to see him back with all the experience that he brings. That’s a great help to us and he comes back into a very strong part of our squad."

Mainz had a fantastic start of this season picking up three wins in the opening three matches, but in the last round they were brought down to earth heavily losing 4-1 to Hannover 96 away. It was first really bad performance by Mainz, and they could have easily conceded more than four goals in that match.

Bad news for Mainz is that their standard Danish midfielder Niki Ziemling suffered a hamstring injury, while playing for Denmark against Armenia in the qualifier during midweek, and will be out of the team for the following three weeks. So the option left for coach Thomas Tuchel is to use Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting at Ziemling`s position, but Choupo-Moting is not the same quality player as Ziemling is, so that side in the Mainz formation will be weaker.

In the recent head to head Bundesliga games, Mainz have managed two wins, two draws and two losses against Schalke 04. Also there were at least three goals scored in the last five out of six Bundesliga matches played between Mainz and Schalke 04.


Schalke 04

Schalke 04 finally managed a nice 2-0 home win against the favorites Bayer Leverkusen in the last round. Their deadline transfer addition from AC Milan - Kevin-Prince Boateng settled in really well right away from the start, and he was amongst the best team players in the match against Bayer Leverkusen. Jefferson Farfan was also great in that game, so the trio Farfan, Boateng and Draxler is expected to be amongst the dangerous midfield lines in the league.

The left-back and former German national team player - Dennis Aogo, who came from Hamburg, also strengthened the defense, so i expect Schalke 04 to start climbing up the table in the following weeks.

Team captain Benedikt Howedes returns back in the starting line up after serving his red card suspension, but Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is still not ready to play. Adam Szalai will once again be the only striker in the formation and Huntelaar is expected back in the team next week.

For the first time this season, they showed a bad performance and their way of playing in that game was not that fluid as it was in the previous games. However, the International break came in perfect time for the team to refresh and regroup, and i expect them to get back again in their winning days.

Stefan Kiessling failed to score for the first time this season in the match against Schalke 04 and also the wingers had a bad day.

The Italian right-back Giulio Donati is a player to watch, as he was impressive in his first three performances for Bayer Leverkusen. He is a perfect replacement for last season`s great on-loan right-back Daniel Carvajal who returned back to Real Madrid.

Positive for Bayer Leverkusen is that they have a full squad available for selection, and even their latest addition from TSG Hoffenheim, the striker Eren Derdiyok might get some playing time in this match as well.

Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg started this season with two wins and two losses, and they are still searching their best form. Last season Wolfsburg lacked consistency in their games and it seems that they still cannot find a way to tie several good games in a row.

They managed a 2-0 home win over Hertha Berlin in their last match, but they were not that impressive in that game.

In the last moments of the transfer window they lost two players. Japanese midfielder Makoto Hasebe moved to Nuremberg, and their striker Patrick Helmes returned to his home-town team of Cologne.

Wolfsburg have a weak bench, coach Dieter Hecking uses almost the same staring eleven in every match this season, so it will be interesting to see for how long they can hold up with the top teams in the league.

Defensive midfielders Koo and Luiz Gustavo, wingers Vierinha and Ivan Perisic, and the striker Ivica Olic were all out with their national teams during the past week at long trips across the world, so that might have an impact on the team performance this weekend.

Only Hull have had fewer shots than Fulham (24) while West Brom are the only side yet to score in the league.
Fulham will hope to change that trend however, having avoided defeat in their last 5 matches against West Brom and scored 15 goals in their last 5 home league games against the Baggies.
The home advantage may well be telling in this fixture and Fulham could secure their second win of the season, though they may have to settle for the odd goal this time out. A win on Saturday against West Brom at Craven Cottage could inch Martin Jol a little farther from the hot seat, but a loss could crank the temperature up to broiling. Steve Clarke's Baggies reloaded on transfer deadline day and this bottom-of-the-table clash is massive for both sides.
It seemed altogether more fitting to trail into an ellipses rather than feign excitement with an exclamation point or even confidently state the facts with a full stop.
The fact of the matter is, Fulham haven't given us much to be excited about thus far and the club's deadline day (lack of) activity didn't exactly stoke the flames of passion. Although, as I've suggested, it's quite possible that Shahid Khan was satisfied with the club's earlier transfer window activity, is unconvinced by Martin Jol, and wants to let it ride until January, or even before, before he decides on whether or not Jol is his man.
Saturday's home match against a West Brom side desperate for a win will either inch Jol closer to security or hurl him to the top of the first-manager-to-be-sacked list.
In some ways, it's an unfair deal for the Dutchman. Three points in the bag and on to the next one is what everyone is wanting and expecting given the Baggies' dismal start to the season. However, Steve Clarke was able to bring in Morgan Amalfitano, Stephane Sessegnon, and Victor Anichebe on transfer deadline day and suddenly a side that has yet to score a goal in the 2013/14 campaign looks significantly more capable, especially down the flanks. Fulham, through a combination of injuries, aging legs, and disinterested attack-minded players has struggled defending the flanks, especially on the left side where the fleet-footed Sessegnon is likely to operate against the concrete-footed John Arne Riise.
Brede Hangeland and Aaron Hughes will have their hands full with one or both of messrs. Anelka and Anichebe and without plenty of midfield help tracking runs into the defensive third, the Fulham back four could be pushed and pulled dangerously out of shape.
On the other hand, West Brom wasn't one Amalfitano, one Sessegnon, and one Anichebe away from being a brilliant side. With any luck, the international break afforded Dimitar Berbatov and Darren Bent, two players unencumbered by national team duty, the opportunity to get on the same page - or at least in the same book - when it comes to how they will play together. If Martin Jol wants to keep his job I hope he was in on that conversation too.
The Baggies find themselves bottom of the table for a reason, but I have confidence that they won't prop up the rest of the Premier League for long. Let's just hope they don't start their ascent Saturday.

Hannover coach Mirko Slomka is keeping his fingers crossed that Mame Diouf will be able to lead his side's attack against Bayern Munich on Saturday, and more importantly that he will commit to a new contract.
The Senegalese forward is attracting interest from clubs throughout Europe, but Slomka hopes he can convince the player to stay where he is.
``I'm happy and grateful that Mame is currently a Hannover player,'' he said. ``All the rest is the job of our manager Dirk Dufner.
``He's leading talks and trying to tie him down to us beyond next summer. I think that we have good arguments to convince him to accept a new long-term contract with Hannover.''
Diouf has netted twice this season and is currently leading the Reds' charge into the top three of the Bundesliga, which is why Slomka hopes he will be able to pick him at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.
``We'll have to see. Diouf has extraordinary qualities and he is one of the Bundesliga's top strikers,'' Slomka said.
``If he's not fit, then we're going to have to change something.''
Bayern coach Pep Guardiola most certainly has to change something given the absence of midfield trio Thiago Alcantara, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez.
Their combined loss could not come at much a worse time, according to midfielder Arjen Robben, who is looking ahead to three weeks in which Bayern have a packed fixture list.
``Things are really going to get busy now and this is when we need all of our players,'' said the Dutchman.
``Therefore it's a shame that we're without three important players.''

Kightly ready for Clarets bowNew Burnley loanee Michael Kightly is in line for a baptism of fire if he makes his debut against east Lancashire rivals Blackburn on Saturday.
The Clarets swooped for the Stoke winger on transfer deadline day and he could slot straight into Sean Dyche's XI at Turf Moor for the derby contest.
Dyche only has one injury worry to contend with - midfielder Ross Wallace is out until the new year due to a knee injury as he looks to guild Burnley to their first win over Rovers in 34 years.
The side which started the 3-0 win against Derby before the international break is likely to be given the nod again at Turf Moor, with Kightly possibly displacing Keith Treacy or Scott Arfield in the only change.

Striker Jordan Rhodes has been fitted with a cast on his broken hand and will be available for Blackburn.
Rhodes has struck four times in his last two outings but gave Rovers fans a scare ahead of the meeting with their neighbours when he pulled out of the Scotland squad at the start of the week. However, after having the cast fitted, Blackburn have declared him fit for the clash at Turf Moor.
There is less good news elsewhere, though, with David Dunn - whose last-gasp goal against the Clarets at Ewood Park last year salvaged a point - out for the next couple of weeks due to a knee injury.
Midfielder Lee Williamson (back) and full-back Adam Henley (hamstring) will be in Gary Bowyer's squad but DJ Campbell (ankle), Paul Robinson (back), Dickson Etuhu (knee) and Ruben Rochina (shoulder) all miss out again.

Over the last three days you've been voting for the August Goal of the Month. There were 14 goals to choose from but 13 of those goals were never in with a chance of winning it.
That was because Danny Ings' fifth and last goal of the month, our opener at Pride Park last Saturday in the 3-0 win against Derby, was, by some margin, the one voted the best.
It won 79.9% of the vote, a massive return given the number of goals to select from, and that left so few votes for the remaining goals that only one other, Keith Treacy's opener against Yeovil, got past 5%.

Four points from the opening nine is their lowest total in four seasons and this match comes after they failed to score in back-to-back league games for the first time since 2007. The serene and impressive start at Swansea has been followed by a stalemate with Chelsea and then a narrow defeat at Anfield, leaving David Moyes with the same record from his first three league games as his predecessor at Old Trafford. This, however, is a game that every United fan will expect three points from against their newly-promoted opponents.
I thought Palace did fairly well when I saw them against Tottenham on the opening weekend of the season in a 1-0 defeat at Selhurst Park, a day most memorable for Ian Holloway's post-match meltdown - which has cost him an £18,000 fine and two-match touchline ban, starting with this match.
The narrow loss to Spurs wasn't harsh, but they battled hard against one of the top sides and Kagisho Dikgacoi brought a good save from Hugo Lloris near the end as they pushed for a late equaliser.
A 2-1 defeat at Stoke, after taking the lead, and then a confidence boosting 3-1 home success over Paolo Di Canio's Sunderland are the only other things we've got to go on so far - it's a decent enough start.
When he was in charge of Blackpool in the Premier League, Ian Holloway's team had a real go against Manchester United... scoring twice both home and away against them only to end up losing the two games. A win here with his latest club really would be headline news. Interestingly enough though, Crystal Palace were actually victorious the last time they played at Old Trafford - 2-1 after extra time in a Carling Cup tie a couple of years ago.
Whatever happens in this one, we'll miss Holloway's energetic and intense presence on the touchline.
