Manchester United will assess the fitness of Wayne Rooney, who missed the win at Norwich with a groin problem and has yet to return to training. The game may come too soon for Robin van Persie but Antonio Valencia returns after a one-game ban. Tottenham are without midfielder Paulinho, who is likely to be out for four weeks with an ankle injury. Right-back Kyle Walker returns from suspension but Jermain Defoe is doubtful with a hamstring problem.
New Year. A time to make rash resolutions and bold predictions for what might unfold in the next 12 months. You'd have to be a soothsayer to put Nostradamus to shame to have accurately called the ups and downs of both these clubs in the one month since they last met.
In the immediate aftermath of their 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane, Manchester United lost successive home league games in the most difficult days yet under David Moyes's management. But six wins in a row since then have lifted the gloom to the extent that many see them as genuine title challengers again.
As the momentum builds, there seems to be a change in Moyes. On Boxing Day at Hull he was the most animated he's been yet as United boss.
Animated and angry; contesting every decision - and still bristling after the game even following a potentially significant comeback win. He's basically settled in!
In relative terms though, it was a dull December for United compared to Spurs' month. After that 2-2 draw they won their next two games, and yet one thumping by Liverpool later it was all change at the Lane.
Tim Sherwood couldn't have believed that he'd start 2014 as a Premier League manager (head coach, officially), but he's begun pretty well. So well that Spurs have the chance to go four league games unbeaten for the first time this season.
They'll be under no illusions as to how difficult avoiding defeat will be of course, but will be buoyed by winning their past three away league games, boasting the third-best away record in the Premier League this season, and having broken their own Old Trafford hoodoo with last term's first win there since 1989.
That's something else for those into omens and fortunes at the turn of the year - it was that match that ended United's last six-game winning streak.

Head-to-head
Spurs won this fixture 3-2 last season, claiming their first victory at Manchester United since 16 December 1989. The victory ended a winless run of 26 games (D4, L22) away to the Red Devils.
Since then the sides have drawn twice at White Hart Lane, meaning Tottenham are unbeaten in their past three games against United.

Manchester United
The Red Devils have won their past six games in league and cup. It is their best winning run since a six-match streak between August and September 2012 which ended with a 3-2 loss at home to Tottenham.
They have claimed eight wins from their past 13 top-flight matches, losing twice.
Danny Welbeck has scored four goals and assisted one in his past four Premier League appearances.
Manchester United have not conceded a penalty in their past 76 Premier League games.

Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs have scored more Premier League penalties than any other side this season - all four of them converted by Roberto Soldado.
Tottenham have scored seven goals in their past three Premier League games, as many as they managed in their final seven top-flight matches under Andre Villas-Boas.
The 3-0 win against Stoke was Spurs' biggest Premier League victory since beating Aston Villa 4-0 on 26 December 2012.
The result also gave Tottenham their first clean sheet in nine league games.
Spurs players embarked on 29 dribbles, more than any other Premier League side, at the weekend.

Stoke V Everton live Stream Premier League– Preview 1st Jan 2014

Stoke welcome back Glenn Whelan and Marc Wilson after suspension, and Marko Arnautovic following illness. However Andy Wilkinson faces a spell on the sidelines after injuring his heel in the defeat at Tottenham. Everton have Tim Howard and Gareth Barry available after both served one-match bans against Southampton.Sylvain Distin is expected to shake off a minor hamstring problem, although fellow centre-back Phil Jagielka is out with a similar injury.
Stoke City will be relieved to be back at the Britannia Stadium after being badly battered and bruised on the road over Christmas, with Sunday's 3-0 defeat at Tottenham coming hot on the heels of a 5-1 drubbing at Newcastle. It could have been very different. I was at St James' Park and Stoke were well on top in the first half-hour, fully deserving their 1-0 lead, but things unravelled horribly as Glenn Whelan and then Marc Wilson were sent off. Not surprisingly their nine men were no match for a Newcastle side that quickly went through the gears.
In many ways the defeat at Spurs will be of greater concern to Mark Hughes as his team never really showed up.
How he must hope his players can find their feet in front of their own supporters, where they're unbeaten in three months and have recently clocked up impressive wins over Aston Villa and Chelsea.
At least with Whelan and Wilson back from suspension, Stoke should be close to full strength, and they'll need to be against an Everton side presenting an ever more convincing case for a top-four finish.
We begin a new year and the second half of the season with Everton in fourth position, above neighbours Liverpool, champions Manchester United and the much talked-about Tottenham Hotspur.
Clearly their results have been excellent but so too their style of play and Roberto Martinez deserves so much credit. Blessed with better players, his approach that brought so many plaudits at Wigan but not enough points is now reaping greater rewards.
The Boxing Day blip at home to Sunderland after Tim Howard's dismissal is their only recent blemish. That was only their second defeat of the season - the other, away to Manchester City, was nearly three months ago. Since then they've won at Manchester United and drawn at Arsenal to show their mettle.
A different kind of challenge awaits at Stoke but if Everton pass this test it would be the perfect start to what could be a very exciting year.

Head-to-head
Stoke have only won two of their past 16 league games against Everton (D5, L9).
The two sides have met once before on New Year's Day as Stoke won 2-0 at the Britannia Stadium in 2011, part of a current four-game unbeaten home streak for the Potters against the Toffees (W1, D3).
Everton's sole league win at the Britannia Stadium was a 3-2 triumph in Stoke's first Premier League season (2008-09).
Everton won 4-0 in November's reverse fixture. In doing so they scored more goals than they had done in their previous five meetings with Stoke (three).

Stoke
Stoke are unbeaten in their past six home matches, including victories in three of their past four at the Britannia.
Sixteen of Stoke's 21 Premier League points this season (W4, D4, L1) have come at home (76%). Their sole defeat was 1-0 to Norwich in September.
Mark Hughes's men have failed to score in four of their past seven league games.
The Potters are seven points down on this stage of last season when they sat in eighth position at the halfway point.

Everton
Everton (nine) are the only Premier League team to have conceded fewer than 10 goals away from home this season.
Roberto Martinez's men have scored inside the last 20 minutes in eight of their past 11 league matches.
Toffees defenders have scored nine goals this campaign, five more than Stoke's strikers have managed.
Everton right-back Seamus Coleman has scored three goals in his past four league appearances. He has also created 22 chances for team-mates this season, the second-highest tally for a defender behind Tottenham's Kyle Walker (27).

Southampton will assess the fitness of striker Dani Osvaldo, who missed the defeat at Everton because of illness. Midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin returns following a one-game suspension. Chelsea midfielder Ramires is available after a one-match ban and could replace David Luiz, who is suspended after amassing five yellow cards. The Blues are also without Frank Lampard and Branislav Ivanovic, both of whom were substituted against Liverpool on Sunday after suffering injuries. Chelsea lost 2-1 here last season and it is the sort of venue where they could easily come unstuck again, but there's a renewed tactical discipline and focus about Jose Mourinho's team in recent weeks. They've won three of their past four games in the league since losing at Stoke early in December, when an utterly dominant opening 40 minutes descended into an unlikely 3-2 defeat. They have tightened things up since then. Mourinho is many things, but a gung-ho, "we'll score one more than you" type of manager isn't one of them.
Clearly Chelsea have the players to be flamboyant and the win over Liverpool on Sunday was excellent, but they're showing they can grind out results too.
Overall, it's one defeat in the past nine league games, which leaves them ominously well placed at the halfway mark in third place, just a couple of points off the top.
There should be more to come from the attacking players too. Swansea at home on Boxing Day was a case in point.
First-half dominance led to just one goal and, rather than putting the game beyond reach, Chelsea were left hanging on a bit with Swansea increasingly fancying their chances of a late equaliser.
The last time I was at Southampton, Mauricio Pochettino told me his team had basically put on Santa outfits and handed out early presents to Tottenham in losing 3-2 just before Christmas.
You could see his point after an excellent start that produced an early lead had been undermined by defensive errors.
It's been a frustrating period of the season that has seen them win only one of the past eight in the Premier League, while losing five.
Their recent run has seen them drop from third to ninth, but they looked more like their old selves in dismantling Cardiff away on Boxing Day and they gave high-flying Everton a good game on Sunday in a narrow 2-1 defeat.

Head-to-head
Chelsea have won six of their past eight league and cup games against Southampton (D1, L1).
Their sole defeat was the 2-1 loss at the St Mary's Stadium on 30 March 2013.

Southampton
Saints have lost five of their past eight league games (W1, D2).
They kept six clean sheets in their first nine top-flight matches, but have recorded just one shut-out in the subsequent 10 games.
If Saints lose it will be the first time they have suffered back-to-back home league defeats under Mauricio Pochettino.
Rickie Lambert is one shy of 100 league goals for Southampton.

Chelsea
Chelsea have won four of the seven league games in which they have conceded the opening goal this season, collecting a total of 13 points - the best record in the top flight.
The Blues have conceded 37% of their league goals from set pieces - the highest ratio in the Premier League.
Eden Hazard's tally of eight league goals is greater than the combined total of Samuel Eto'o (3), Fernando Torres (2) and Demba Ba (1).
No striker scored an away league goal for Chelsea in 2013. Fernando Torres was the last centre-forward to net on the road for the Blues, doing so in a 3-1 win at Sunderland on 8 December 2012.

Fulham will hand late fitness tests to Dimitar Berbatov (groin) and Adel Taarabt (unspecified). Scott Parker returns to the squad and is expected to be one of several changes from the side beaten at Hull. West Ham have major defensive problems once again but James Collins (groin) reportedly has a chance of playing.Winston Reid (ankle), James Tomkins (groin), Andy Carroll (heel) and Stewart Downing (calf) remain out, and Ravel Morrison (groin) is doubtful.
This fixture is already a real relegation battle for me, and not just because the two clubs are in the bottom three right now. Fulham have conceded 41 goals in the Premier League this season, nine more than any other club. Regardless of the 6-0 defeat they suffered at the hands of Hull last weekend, the Whites have been guilty of letting in far too many sloppy goals.
New Fulham head coach Rene Meulensteen has beefed up his backroom staff with the appointments of Alan Curbishley as technical director and Ray Wilkins as assistant head coach.
Curbishley slowly built Charlton into a Premier League force and ultimately led them to a seventh-place finish, while Wilkins knows the division inside out.
Both men must work on tightening up that defence and help Meulensteen get to grips with matters at the wrong end of a Premier League table.
Fulham's new management trio will also be looking to get the best out of Dimitar Berbatov, who has missed the last three games, and help Darren Bent rediscover the form that made him one of the division's most lethal strikers. Berbatov and Bent are key to Fulham's survival hopes.
West Ham's goalscoring problems are well documented but just six away goals in nine games explains why they are struggling, and three of those came in one game.
No-one could have foreseen their terrible luck with defensive injuries but with problems now at both ends of the pitch it merely highlights their threadbare squad.
John Heitinga and Asamoah Gyan have been linked in recent days and the Hammers urgently need squad reinforcements.
I'm expecting there to be a lot of tension at Craven Cottage following the 6-0 defeat at Hull, a result even the Fulham players called unacceptable.
I believe it will be close, I don't think there will be many goals and it will be a dog-fight, maybe even right through until the end of the season for both clubs.

Head-to-head
Fulham's 3-1 win over West Ham last January was only their second victory over the Hammers in 12 league and cup meetings at Craven Cottage since 1975 (W2, D3, L7).
Fulham did not manage a single shot on target against West Ham in November's reverse fixture at Upton Park, a 3-0 defeat.
Thirteen goals have been scored in the last three league fixtures between the two sides at Craven Cottage.

Fulham
Rene Meulensteen's men, beaten 6-0 at Hull on Saturday, have let in 15 goals in their last four league games.
Fulham would be 11th in the table if only results against clubs in the bottom half counted (W5, D1, L3).
The west London side have won all three matches when they have kept a clean sheet. However no club has kept fewer clean sheets than the Whites.
Fulham have conceded the first goal (14) more often than any other Premier League side this season.

West Ham
West Ham are winless in their last six league matches. Their only victory in the last 12 games was November's 3-0 victory over Fulham.
The Hammers have one point fewer (15) than they did at this stage of the 2010-11 season when they were last relegated from the Premier League.
West Ham have kept eight clean sheets this campaign, the joint-highest in the league along with Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham.
Carlton Cole has scored seven goals in his last nine league games against Fulham. He also managed to score an own goal in a 3-2 defeat for the Hammers in 2010.

West Brom striker Nicolas Anelka could figure despite a Football Association investigation into his goal celebration in Saturday's 3-3 draw with West Ham. Fellow striker Shane Long is back in contention after a calf strain while winger Chris Brunt may feature after overcoming a back injury. However, forward Victor Anichebe is doubtful with a groin problem.Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has no new injury or suspension worries following Sunday's defeat by Arsenal.
Frankly it's impossible to sit down and write this preview without reference to Nicolas Anelka's at best ill-judged "quenelle" goal celebration at the Boleyn Ground on Saturday. That 3-3 draw was one of the games of the season, but it has been completely overshadowed by the controversy over Anelka's actions - just as this New Year's Day fixture with Newcastle will be. Regardless of whether Anelka plays - and let's not forget, he's not yet been suspended by either the authorities or his club - interest in this game has suddenly been ratcheted up. I expect French news journalists to rival us sporting hacks and commentators in terms of numbers in the press room.
For Albion the distracting furore could hardly have come at a worse time - 2013 has been a stinker for the Throstles.
When you look at the points-per-game table across the calendar year, only Sunderland's 0.84 was lower than West Brom's 0.92. With that in mind, perhaps the dismissal of Steve Clarke didn't quite come out of the vacuum that it first appeared.
We're still none-the-wiser as to who'll be replacing Clarke. The pursuit of Pepe Mel appears to have reached its conclusion, and still the Baggies fans wait to see who'll be at the helm for the second half of the season.
Newcastle, after last season's Europa League-induced slump, are looking an impressive proposition once again. Yes, Stoke had two players sent off on Boxing Day, but Alan Pardew's men could easily have taken further points from Sunday's game with Arsenal too.
For a club which at times can be a self-contained soap opera, these are relatively calm times. Of course there'll be the predictable January speculation about Yohan Cabaye's future, but there's no doubt Newcastle are well worth their lofty position - only four points off the Champions League places.
Perhaps the Gallic scribes present at the Hawthorns won't be using their ink on Anelka after all, but reporting once again on the excellence of Newcastle's cross-channel contingent. Loic Remy, Yoan Gouffran and Cabaye contributed four of their five goals in the pummelling of the Potters.

Head-to-head
Newcastle have won three of the last four against West Brom in the Premier League.
West Brom have won 46 of the meetings between the two clubs in all competitions, as opposed to Newcastle's 45 victories.

West Brom
West Brom are on a run of nine Premier League games without a victory (D5, L4).
Caretaker boss Keith Downing has drawn all three of his games in charge of West Brom.
The Baggies have conceded the first goal in 12 of their 19 league games this term, losing seven of those matches and drawing five times.
West Brom have kept four clean sheets, which is the second lowest tally in the division.
Two of the seven players to have collected six top-flight bookings play for West Brom - Jonas Olsson and Youssouf Mulumbu.
Nicolas Anelka has scored six times against Newcastle in the Premier League.

Newcastle United
Newcastle have more away wins (five) than four of the top five clubs - Manchester City, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool.
Alan Pardew's side have scored the first goal in 12 of 19 league games - going on to win nine of those matches.
France midfielder Yohan Cabaye has scored in Newcastle's last two away games.
Seven of Newcastle's 10 league wins have been by a single-goal margin.
Papiss Cisse has scored three goals in four Premier League games against West Brom.

Sunderland duo Adam Johnson and Fabio Borini are doubtful through illness, while John O'Shea has a shoulder problem and will also be assessed.Defender Wes Brown serves the final game of a three-match ban.Aston Villa will monitor the fitness of Christian Benteke (knee) and defender Ron Vlaar (calf) as they look to end a run of five games without a win. Vlaar's possible return would be timely as fellow centre-back Ciaran Clark serves a one-game ban.Though it is Sunderland who reside at the foot of the Premier League table there's a distinct feeling that it is they and not opponents Aston Villa who go into the new year with a great deal more to be positive about.
Unbeaten in their last four league games, three of which were away, Gus Poyet's side are exhibiting the qualities essential to mount a survival bid.
In addition, the psychological boost they received by knocking Chelsea out of the League Cup will have energised them still further and given them genuine belief that they have it within them to disprove the theory that the side at the bottom at Christmas is a virtual certainty to be playing Championship football next season. The visitors are in the midst of a miserable sequence of results; without a win in five, their draw with Swansea at the weekend ended a run of four straight defeats.
They were booed off by their disconsolate supporters, and may be relieved to playing away, where they've been far more effective throughout Paul Lambert's reign.
Another defeat at the Stadium of Light though and they will have allowed the hosts to move to within just three points of them. Like it or not, they'll be the side in the sights of the bottom three.
With fixtures against Arsenal and Liverpool looming straight after, they can ill-afford to begin 2014 by succumbing to the Black Cats.
It's also a clash of the side with the most red cards (Sunderland) against the one with the most yellows (Villa), and considering there have been four sending offs in the last six meetings, perhaps we should expect a feisty afternoon.
It all points to a fixture of both intensity and nervousness in equal measure.

Head-to-head
Aston Villa are unbeaten against Sunderland in their last five fixtures, scoring nine and conceding three (W2, D3).
The Black Cats have won four, drawn four and lost four of 12 Premier League home games against Villa.
Villa have the better overall record, with 78 wins to Sunderland's 54 in head-to-head fixtures.

Sunderland
Sunderland are currently on a four-match unbeaten run (W1, D3).
The Black Cats have failed to win any of their nine games against bottom-half opposition this season.
Two of Sunderland's three Premier League wins in 2013-14 have come at the Stadium of Light.
Four teams in the Premier League have scored more goals than Sunderland and Villa's combined total of 33 prior to the latest round of matches.
27% of Sunderland's goals have been scored in the opening 15 minutes, the highest proportion in the Premier League this season.

Aston Villa
Paul Lambert's side are without a win in their last five games.
If the Villans fail to win it will be their longest sequence without a league victory since an eight-game run between December 2012 and February 2013.
Villa have lost half as many games (3) away from home as they have at Villa Park (6).
Only Fulham (14) have conceded the first goal in a game more frequently than Aston Villa (12).
Aston Villa have scored just two goals in their last five matches.
Villa captain Ron Vlaar scored his first goal for the club against Sunderland in the 6-1 victory last April.

Liverpool could welcome back Steven Gerrard after the England midfielder returned to training following a hamstring injury. Joe Allen (abductor strain) and Mamadou Sakho (hamstring) are likely to miss out after picking up knocks in Sunday's 2-1 defeat by Chelsea.Hull City boss Steve Bruce could keep faith with the side that thrashed Fulham 6-0 on Saturday. Winger Robbie Brady is a concern with his on-going groin problem.
They've gone from top at Christmas to fifth to start the new year, but if Liverpool can reproduce the consistent performances and points total of 2013 over the next 12 months, then their progress and strides forward will certainly continue.
Whilst they are still title challengers, a return to the top four was always the main objective and you sense they will never have a better chance of achieving that than this season. The omens are good - the team that has been top at Christmas has gone on to finish in the top four in each of the last 15 seasons.
Liverpool haven't beaten any of the four teams that start the year above them, but all of those fixtures have been away and they all have to visit Anfield in the second half of the campaign.
Their home form represents a positive turnaround. In seasons gone by they have struggled to beat the teams they've been expected to. However with the exception of a reverse against Southampton they've won every home game including the last six in a row and scored 23 goals in the process.
In contrast, goals had been hard to come by for Hull this season before their stunning victory over Fulham to end their memorable year on a high.
To begin the new year in 10th place with 23 points on the board is testament to the fantastic job Steve Bruce has done and has given them a real foundation to survive.
The 6-0 win against Fulham was a timely one ahead of games against Liverpool and Chelsea but they've asked questions of all the top teams so far and been competitive in most matches.
They'll have a game plan but will feel anything gained from this one will be an added bonus.
After a tough festive period on the road, Liverpool should relish being back home again.

Head-to-head
Hull's 3-1 win against Liverpool in December was the first time in their history the Tigers had beaten the Reds (D4, L12).
Liverpool have won three of their five Premier League matches with Hull.
Luis Suarez has never netted against Hull City - the only other current Premier League side he has failed to score against is Cardiff.
Two of Hull's seven Premier League goals scored against Liverpool have been own goals (from Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel)

Liverpool
The Merseysiders have lost their last two games in the Premier League - the first time this season they have suffered successive top-flight defeats.
However, the Reds have won their last six home games, winning eight of nine league matches at Anfield in total this term.
Only Manchester City (38) have scored more goals on home turf than Liverpool's tally of 25.
Of Luis Suarez's 19 goals in 2013-14, 16 have come against bottom-half opposition and just three against the top half (two versus Tottenham and one against Everton).
Liverpool have scored the first goal on 14 occasions this season - the joint-best record in the division.

Hull City
The Tigers ended a run of four games without a win with a 6-0 victory against Fulham last time out.
Robert Koren's brace in that win was the first time this season a Hull player had scored more than a single goal in a game.
Hull have never won a Premier League match in the month of January (D3, L4).
Steve Bruce is looking for a first home-away 'double' over Liverpool as a manager since his Birmingham side completed the feat in 2004-05.
With victory against Fulham, Hull became the fourth team this season to score five or more goals in a game after Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle.

Crystal Palace striker Cameron Jerome suffered a knee injury against Manchester City and will be assessed. Midfielders Stuart O'Keefe and Kagisho Dikgacoi are back in training after muscle injuries. Norwich's Gary Hooper was substituted on Saturday with a muscle problem, but the club are hopeful he will be fit. Jonny Howson is doubtful with a back problem that has ruled him out of the last three games, but Michael Turner returns after a ban.
In 21 seasons as a manager Tony Pulis has never been relegated. Keeping that enviable record intact looked a tall order when the Welshman began his reign at Crystal Palace with a 1-0 defeat at Norwich on the eve of advent.
Coupled with a recent seven-match losing streak, it left the Eagles marooned at the bottom of the table on seven points with confidence in short supply. But since then Pulis has galvanised his squad and the players have responded well, playing with resilience and energy. Improved performances yielded three wins in the next half a dozen matches elevating Palace out the drop zone.
If it wasn't for a 'man of the match' performance by England goalkeeper Joe Hart on Saturday, the Eagles might even have become the first visiting side to smuggle a point at title-chasing Manchester City.
Norwich will be looking for a new year tonic after back-to-back home defeats and a winless run of four matches. The Canaries will be glancing nervously over their shoulder, and likeable manager Chris Hughton is once again craving some consistency in a stuttering campaign.
Despite summer investment in excess of £20m, Norwich are six points worse off than at the midway mark last season.
It hasn't helped that they have yet to see the best of record-signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel, who is now fit after two months recovering from a toe injury.
However, the Dutchman's absence has coincided with Gary Hooper discovering the goal-scoring prowess that made the 25-year-old so prolific at Celtic. Norwich will also take heart from Saturday's enterprising first-half performance against Manchester United.
This match has all the characteristics of a six-pointer, particularly as the bottom 10 clubs are separated by just seven points.
A win for rejuvenated Crystal Palace would see them leapfrog Norwich on goal difference and climb further clear of the relegation zone.
But victory for Norwich will lift the Canaries towards mid-table and suddenly Palace would be back in hot water with four defeats in five matches.

Head-to-head
Norwich have failed to win their last 13 games away to Crystal Palace (D4, L9).
Their last victory away to Palace was a 1-0 win in a second-tier match on 5 May 1996 courtesy of a David Hopkin own goal.

Crystal Palace
Palace have lost three of their last four league games, scoring just twice.
They have managed just seven league goals at home this season, the joint lowest tally in the top flight (with Aston Villa).
The Eagles made 11 blocks against Manchester City, more than any other Premier League side at the weekend.

Norwich City
A defeat would mean the Canaries lose three successive league games for the first time this season.
That would be their worst top-flight run since a four-match losing streak between 22 December 2012 and 1 January 2013.
Norwich have kept clean sheets in their last two away league games.

Barclays Premier League leaders Arsenal begin 2014 with a home game against Cardiff City on New Year's Day. Having been briefly replaced at the top of the table by Manchester City on Saturday, Arsene Wenger's men returned to the summit 24 hours later courtesy of a battling 1-0 win at in-form Newcastle United. Arsenal will be aiming to claim another three points against a Cardiff side who have mustered one win in nine matches and sit 16th in the table, two points above the relegation zone. David Kerslake is set to be in caretaker charge of the Welsh outfit once again at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday after the dismisssal of Malky Mackay last week.
Kerslake oversaw Saturday's 2-2 home draw with Sunderland, which saw the League's bottom club come from two goals down to snatch a point, and is hopeful Cardiff can build on their display against Arsenal in the reverse fixture in November.
Although last season's Championship winners were beaten 3-0 that day, with former Cardiff midfielder Aaron Ramsey scoring twice, Arsenal only made the game safe with two goals in the final four minutes.
"We held our own against them," said Kerslake. "We know they are one of the finest sides in Europe. We had a good go at them here, so we go there in good spirits."

Cardiff's last victory over Arsenal came in February 1961, although the two sides have only met 12 times since.
German playmaker Mesut Ozil is likely to be unavailable for Wenger's men, having missed the win over Newcastle with a shoulder injury. Ramsey, one of the standout players in the Premier League this season, remains sidelined by a thigh problem, while Cardiff's Craig Bellamy is still battling a knee complaint.
Arsenal are unbeaten in eight League home games since losing to Aston Villa on the opening day of the season, but have been held to draws by Everton and Chelsea in their last two matches at the Emirates Stadium. Cardiff's only away win to date came at Fulham on 28 September.
