Bayern Munich go in search of more records when they head to Hoffenheim on Saturday.

Bayern travel to Hoffenheim this weekend and should walk away from the Rhein-Neckar Arena with all three points to maintain their position at the top of the Bundesliga table. Pep Guardiola has the team playing some fantastic football, and the midweek break after last weekend's 3-2 victory over Hertha Berlin comes at a great time. Hoffenheim have been playing well in recent weeks. They've only lost one of their last four, and that was against Bayer Leverkusen and Stefan Kießling's "phantom tor". They'll battle hard, but Bayern are the better team.

Having steamrolled their way to success last season, little has changed since Pep Guardiola took charge of the Bavarians in the summer, but he can become the club's most successful coach in terms of making the best start in the league by avoiding defeat at Hoffenheim.
Extending his unbeaten start to life as Bayern coach to 11 games would break a record set by Branko Zebec in 1968.
Furthermore, Bayern can extend their unbeaten record to 36 games this weekend, matching Hamburg's record from 1982 to 1983.
"We're really looking forward to it," said Hoffenheim coach Markus Gisdol, who is keen to throw a spanner in the works at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena.
"This is a very special game for us, but not as much so for Bayern. We want to do everything we can to send out a signal."
His side have emitted enough signals this season with the most goals scored - three more than Bayern - and the most conceded also.
Bayern, on the other hand, have conceded the fewest, although they let in two in a single game for the first time this season last weekend against Hertha Berlin.
They have received another reward, or rather one of their players has, prior to Saturday's trip with David Alaba voted Austria's sportsman of the year on Thursday night.
The 21-year-old became the first footballer since Toni Polster in 1997 to win the prize, which he puts down to hard work and humility.
"I know that I'm living the dream of many young people, and my own dream, and I'm very grateful for this, and of course I need to pinch myself now and again to see if everything is really true," he told his club's website.
"I have good people around me who pinch me now and again too, and that helps me keep my feet on the ground."
A loan spell at Hoffenheim also helped launch his career, but he has warned his former club to expect a hungry and revitalised Bayern on Saturday.
"Having a week off has allowed us to really get our breath back," Alaba added. "This week was also important psychologically.

Suarez/Sturridge - five games started together; 10 goals
Crude and unscientific maybe, but I go with the stats on this and think the Liverpool pair is the most dangerous around right now.
They'll undoubtedly be on the minds of Messrs Mertesacker and Koscielny ahead of the game, especially as the Arsenal defence will be missing its invaluable shield of Mathieu Flamini. That could be key.
Both sides have suffered just one league defeat since March. By pure coincidence I was there to see both those games! I promise to leave my jinx jacket at home this time - and go for a draw. 

Head-to-head
Four of the last six league meetings in north London have ended in draws, with one win apiece. Arsenal scored twice inside three minutes through Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott to earn a draw from 2-0 down in the corresponding fixture last January.
Liverpool's only win in their last 12 league games against Arsenal came at the Emirates Stadium in August 2011. An Aaron Ramsey own goal and Luis Suarez strike gave Liverpool their only win at Arsenal in the last 13 years.

They are the only team to score in each of their Premier League matches this season.
Arsene Wenger's side have taken the lead in eight of their nine league fixtures, the best record in the division.

Aaron Ramsey has five goals and three assists in his last six league appearances.

Liverpool
Liverpool's tally of 20 points after nine games represents their best Premier League start since 2008. They have double the number of points they had at this stage last season.
The Reds have conceded in each of their last six league games, having started the season with three successive clean sheets.
They have hit the woodwork a league-high eight times this season.
Daniel Sturridge has scored 14 goals in his last 14 league appearances.
Luis Suarez has scored six goals in four league games since returning from suspension.
Simon Mignolet will make his 100th Premier League appearance. He has kept 33 clean sheets.

West Ham's injury problems have worsened, with Matthew Taylor and Mladen Petric the latest casualties this week.The re-signed Carlton Cole is not yet ready for a Premier League start, according to manager Sam Allardyce.Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor is unlikely to recover in time from the ankle injury he suffered during last weekend's defeat by Everton. What a curious start to the season it has been for these two sides.
Both have recorded eye-catching wins - West Ham at Spurs, Villa against Arsenal and Manchester City - but neither can find any consistency, particularly at home.
From that point of view, Aston Villa may feel the more comfortable of the two teams going into this fixture. Paul Lambert has won more away games with Villa than at home, with their counter-attacking style better suited on the road.
Villa will maintain they have had a tough run of fixtures - having faced six of last season's top seven teams in their first nine games - but you feel that, until their young side has played together for longer, they will continue to be looking over their shoulder.
The same might be said for West Ham, who will be hard pressed to improve on last season's tenth-place finish.
The story of their current campaign revolves around the absence of forward Andy Carroll. The resulting lack of a focal point has really hindered the Hammers. Carlton Cole has been re-signed but is still building up his fitness, and Ricardo Vaz Te is now out for a while.
Sam Allardyce's side rely a lot on the midfield axis of Mark Noble and Kevin Nolan, and we have yet to see the best of the wingers brought in by Allardyce, Matt Jarvis and ex-Villa man Stewart Downing.
Villa's cause is helped by the fact they have just got their main striker - Christian Benteke - back from injury, although Gabby Agbonlahor is likely to miss out.
This is a fixture that's produced few goals in recent times and I'm not expecting this occasion to be any different. One thing's for sure, the losers will be looking downwards.

Head-to-head
Eight of the 17 Premier League meetings at Upton Park have ended in draws.
West Ham beat Villa for only the third time in their last 12 attempts at home on the opening day of last season. Kevin Nolan scored the only goal.

West Ham
The Hammers have lost their last three home matches. They have not suffered four consecutive home defeats since the 2005-06 season.
West Ham have never lost four of their first five top-flight home matches.
They have failed to score in five of their nine fixtures, the joint-worst record in the division.
However, only three clubs (Southampton, Tottenham and Chelsea) have conceded fewer goals than West Ham's tally of eight.
A third of their nine league games have ended 0-0 this season.
Stewart Downing and Carlton Cole have both previously played for Aston Villa.

Aston Villa
Villa have conceded the opening goal in seven of their Premier League fixtures this season, more than any other side.
They have only taken one point from the last three matches and failed to score in that time. Villa last went four successive league games without a goal between December 2009 and January 2010.
Paul Lambert has won more away league games (seven) as manager of Aston Villa than he has at Villa Park (six).
Lambert's side have won five, drawn two and lost just two of their last nine league away games.
Christian Benteke has missed two penalties this season. There have only been six penalties missed in total in the top flight this term.

West Brom have fitness doubts over midfielders Morgan Amalfitano and Scott Sinclair.Amalfitano was substituted with a knee injury last weekend, while Sinclair has missed the last three matches because of a hamstring complaint. Crystal Palace defender Jonny Parr could make his first appearance since injuring ankle ligaments in April. Damien Delaney is having to manage an ongoing ankle problem but is expected to be available.
I remember commentating on both legs of Crystal Palace's Championship play-off semi-final last May. Ian Holloway's team had somewhat stumbled over the line at the end of the regular league season, winning just one of their last 10 Championship games.
The squad was clearly not the finished article, despite having Wilfried Zaha and Glenn Murray in the team - Zaha was widely regarded the best player in the Championship last year, while Murray had bagged 31 goals over the course of the campaign.
Fast forward to the start of this season; Zaha had joined Manchester United, Murray was out with a long-term knee injury and the club was adopting a scattergun approach in the transfer market. Quantity rather than quality arrived at Selhurst Park. It is against this backdrop that Holloway's tenure failed to last any longer than eight games in the top flight.
There may be 29 league fixtures left and a total of 87 points to play for, but it is already evident that whoever becomes the new manager is going to need a miraculous turnaround to avoid the drop. Attracting quality players to an already bloated squad in January will be almost impossible.
So is this a good or a bad time to play West Brom? Albion's 4-1 defeat by Liverpool last time out was their heaviest of the season so far. However, it was also their only league defeat in the past two months.
Head coach Steve Clarke has engineered an away win at Old Trafford and earned creditable draws against sides such as Everton and Arsenal in the league.
At the time of writing, Keith Millen looks likely to be still in caretaker charge of the visitors for this one. He admits he is not the man to take the club forward.
Should Palace slump to another defeat at The Hawthorns, whoever does take this job might already be mentally preparing for Championship football next season.

Head-to-head
Three of the last four league meetings have ended as 1-1 draws. Crystal Palace are unbeaten in five games against West Brom.
Palace's only top-flight win in seven attempts at The Hawthorns was by 4-0 in February 1973.

West Bromwich Albion
West Brom lost for the first time in six matches at Anfield last weekend (W2, D3, L1).
However, they are four points and four places worse off than at the same stage last season.
The Baggies have only won one of their last eight league games at The Hawthorns (W1, D3, L4).
Nicolas Anelka has mustered just two shots on target in seven league appearances for Albion.

Crystal Palace
Palace have lost six consecutive league matches for the first time since February and March 2001, when they were in the second tier.
It's their worst top-flight run since a club record eight-match losing streak between January and March 1998.
They are yet to earn an away point this season and are winless in their last nine league trips dating back to March (D2, L7).
The Eagles have conceded a league-high four penalties this season.
Two thirds of Crystal Palace's six goals this season have come from set-pieces. Their tally of two goals from open play is the lowest in the division.
Marouane Chamakh has appeared in all nine of Palace's league games this season but has had only two shots on target. He has scored once in his last 20 Premier League

But if Southampton are flying, Stoke are trundling along the runway, waiting for permission to take-off. They haven't won a league game since August, and have lost four of their last five. Okay, last week they rose to the occasion and very nearly pulled off the club's first win at Manchester United since 1976. But instead of making history they made a mess of it, missing chances then defending badly to allow Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez to put a smile back on the face of David Moyes. On Tuesday night they nearly blew it again, losing a 3-1 lead against ten men with five minutes to go before scraping past Birmingham in a penalty shoot-out to reach the last eight of the League Cup. 

Team News:
Stoke defender Andy Wilkinson is ruled out of Saturday's game because of a knee injury.
Striker Kenwyne Jones will hope for a recall after scoring as a substitute against Birmingham in midweek.
Southampton will assess Dani Osvaldo and Steven Davies, but the duo are likely to be available despite missing out last weekend with minor injuries.
However, midfielder Guly do Prado is expected to be sidelined because of a knee problem.
A year ago Southampton slumped to the bottom of the table after a truly dreadful start to life in the top echelon.
Inevitably, there was talk of an immediate return to the Championship. Twelve months on and they are riding high above both Manchester clubs. A six-match unbeaten run leaves them fifth.
Such defensive shortcomings will be eagerly exploited by a Southampton side enjoying their best start to a top-flight season. Remember, they scored late on to get a point at Old Trafford and won at Anfield in what is Liverpool's only defeat of the season.
The strength of Mauricio Pochettino's team is their defensive work. They've only conceded three goals, the best record in the Premier League, and Artur Boruc has only been beaten by Robin van Persie in his last six games.
The odds on another clean sheet for the Poland international should be slim. The Britannia faithful haven't seen their team score since 24 August. That was during Mark Hughes' honeymoon period, but it didn't last long.
To avoid speculation of a speedy divorce he needs something from this one to stop the rot.

Head-to-head
Stoke's last top-flight win at home to Southampton was a 4-1 victory in March 1974.
Last season's corresponding fixture, held on 29 December, ended 3-3. That is the last time Stoke scored more than twice in a Premier League game.

Stoke City
The Potters have averaged 1.67 points per Premier League match in the month of November - a ratio bettered by only Manchester United and Chelsea.
Stoke have failed to win their last six league games. No top-flight side is on a longer winless run (Crystal Palace are also winless in six matches).
The Potters have only conceded four goals in their last six home league games.
This will be Stoke's 200th Premier League match (W58, D59, L82).
Marko Arnautovic has not won on any of his 18 league appearances in 2013 - more than any other player in one of the top five European leagues. That includes six matches with Stoke and 12 with Werder Bremen.

Southampton

Saints have kept a clean sheet in all but one of their last six league games.
They have the best defensive record in the Premier League. Their total of three goals conceded is their lowest tally after nine top-flight fixtures.

Manchester City goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon will make his Premier League debut in place of Joe Hart, who has been dropped after a series of high-profile mistakes. Stevan Jovetic and Javi Garcia suffered injuries in midweek, while Vincent Kompany (thigh) remains sidelined.Norwich pair Alexander Tettey and Ricky van Wolfswinkel miss out with respective knee and foot injuries.Robert Snodgrass (concussion) and Nathan Redmond (hip) are also doubts. Even Norwich die-hards must be fearing a Manchester City backlash after Manuel Pellegrini ripped into his team following the careless defeat at Chelsea. City must stop making the sort of basic defensive mistakes that have cost five goals so far. They looked subdued in the midweek Capital One Cup win at Newcastle and they really need a convincing league victory. They're facing Norwich at just the right time for that.
Chris Hughton's men are on a desperate run; 27 points from their last 30 games is relegation form. Eight away points from a possible 42 is atrocious. Luck has deserted them, but the defence collapsed against Chelsea, at Arsenal and again at Manchester United in the week.
This particular fixture has averaged over six goals per game over the last two seasons. I can only see the home side scoring this time. Norwich are really struggling in front of goal.
The 2012 champions haven't failed to score at the Etihad for the last 54 games. They've only dropped 16 home points from 49 games there, winning all four this season and nine of their last 10. Norwich's 3-2 victory in May is their only setback in that run.
If the visitors repeat that win, Manchester City will be all but out of the title race. But I just can't see it happening. Norwich don't have enough top quality in-form defenders to snuff out Sergio Aguero - who has six goals in four games - the creativity of David Silva and the surging runs from deep of Yaya Toure.
There are still serious questions to be answered by Pellegrini. In the absence of the vital Vincent Kompany, why has there been no place for Joleon Lescott? He has to be better than Javi Garcia or the rusty Martin Demichelis. Why do players of sublime skill disappear so alarmingly away from home?
At Eastlands though, it's a different story. They're almost unbeatable. Norwich are sluggish in the opening exchanges and by the time they settle fast-starting City will be into their stride and will surely have the game won. If there's any other result then it'll be Pellegrini facing a backlash.

Head-to-head
Their four Premier League meetings in the past two seasons have produced a total of 25 goals, an average of 6.25 per game.
Norwich ended a seven-match winless streak against City in all competitions with a 3-2 away victory on the final day of last season.

Manchester City
City have won all four home games in the Premier League this season, and nine of their last 10 dating back to February. The only exception was the 3-2 defeat by Norwich in May.
The 2012 title winners have scored in each of their last 54 Premier League matches at the Etihad Stadium.
They are vying to avoid back-to-back league defeats for the first time since October 2010. It's the first time in five years they have lost at least three of their first nine matches.
Manuel Pellegrini's side have made five errors leading directly to a goal this season, more than any other team.
Sergio Aguero has scored in four successive league matches for the first time in his City career, amassing six goals in that spell. He has four goals in three Premier League starts against Norwich.

Norwich City
Norwich have only scored four times in their last eight league games and have six goals in total - the joint-worst record in the top flight.
They are the only team yet to score a goal in the first half hour of a Premier League game this season.
Last weekend, Norwich had 31 shots in the goalless draw against Cardiff - the most by any side in a Premier League game this season.
Forwards Johan Elmander, Gary Hooper and Ricky van Wolfswinkel have managed a total of only six shots on target so far.
The Canaries have lost 10 of their last 14 away games in the league, amassing just eight points out of a possible 42.

It was the worst kind of preparation for last week's local skirmish, only for his players to show the kind of resilience, fortitude and good old-fashioned backbone their relegation fight will surely demand in beating Newcastle.
The head coach played a blinder himself, with the injection of Fabio Borini from the bench coming at just the apposite moment.
In Borini, the Black Cats might just have brought in a regular match-winner, and in dispensing with, for now, some of the flashier excesses of Paolo Di Canio's summer shopping and reverting to the old guard - Lee Cattermole, Phil Bardsley, and perhaps even the most forgotten of men Wes Brown - there might just be a nucleus to the team to suggest the season is saveable amid the scorched earth left behind by the previous man in charge.
Even so, the last time the Black Cats had fewer points at this stage of a season was the year Neil Armstrong took one small step - 1969.
In the amber and black camp, Steve Bruce (plus his coaches Steve Agnew and Keith Bertschin) heads a notable list of Sunderland alumni in opposition at the KC Stadium.
Paul McShane, David Meyler and Ahmed Elmohamady all stand a good chance of facing their former employers, though the on-loan - and still goalless - Danny Graham is unavailable against his parent club.
I'm already planning to avoid all reference to penalties within earshot of the normally affable Bruce, not so much because of Wednesday's shoot-out loss, but for the furore which greeted Roberto Soldado's spot-kick in the Premier League meeting at White Hart Lane last Sunday.
Bruce described the handball given against Elmohamady as "a joke" - which has landed him with an FA misconduct charge. He used similar language to describe the dismissal of Michael Turner by Andre Marriner three years ago while Sunderland manager. And guess who the referee is scheduled to be on Saturday?

Almost the first thing new Fulham owner Shahid Khan did on getting the keys to the Cottage was to get rid of MJ.
That was the gruesome, gaudy, waxy-faced but nonetheless lifelike statue of Michael Jackson which had prompted many a smirk from fans meandering behind the Riverside Stand.
If you believe what you read, the next MJ to go could be Martin Jol, on the basis that a manager is never more vulnerable than when a new owner gets his feet under the table.
However Khan's own recent experiences just might encourage him to stick with what he's got.

It's a step in the right direction, despite there being a mood of trepidation rather than triumph these days among some United fans. The presence of the Ferdinand/Vidic axis at the back is usually a nerve-settler and both started against Norwich in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.
United have a tough run coming up with a home match with Arsenal and away matches at Cardiff, Tottenham and Moyes' super-motivated old-boys Everton. Already eight points off the pace, they have no margin for error at Craven Cottage.

It follows a perfect October in which he resurrected the Blues' title challenge, their Champions League aspirations and guided them to the last eight of the League Cup.
It was a month which even included rediscovering timely late winning goals, upsetting match officials and frustrating journalists by walking out of a press conference after taking exception to their questioning.
It seems that normal service has very much been resumed.
And with the happy/special one back to his old self, a win at Newcastle will complete the feelgood factor and send Chelsea to the top of the table.
The odds and the statistics would suggest it's a probability too as the visitors are gathering some unstoppable momentum after a run of six straight victories.
The hosts, by contrast, will go into the game off the back of a damaging week in which they not only lost the derby with Sunderland in the final minutes but also their place in the Capital One Cup. Significantly, the latter match was only settled after extra time.
How much those two energy-sapping contests have taken out of them both physically and mentally may well be a decisive factor. Nine of the 11 who started at Sunderland on Sunday also made an appearance in the cup three days later.
But last season they were able to upset the pre-match predictions in similar circumstances, coming from behind to inflict a dramatic late defeat on Chelsea courtesy of two Moussa Sissoko goals.
That said, this win was the only one they've achieved at home to Saturday's opponents in the last six attempts and while footballing logic doesn't always apply, it would be a major surprise if they could find only their second home win of the Premier League season this weekend.

Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini is unlikely to make Saturday's Premier League clash with Chelsea as he continues his recovery from injury.
The Argentina international is back in training after a groin problem but has no football under his belt.
Fellow central defender Steven Taylor, who suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury in training last week, is still some way from returning.
Left-back Paul Dummett, who partnered Mike Williamson in the 2-1 defeat at Sunderland last weekend, is also out with a hamstring strain, meaning Williamson and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa are likely to pair up, as they did in midweek for the Capital One Cup tie defeat against Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho is poised to recall a host of first-team players for Chelsea's Premier League trip to Newcastle.
The Blues boss made 10 changes for the midweek Capital One Cup win at Arsenal so the likes of Petr Cech, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Eden Hazard, Oscar and Fernando Torres are set to return.

Newcastle came from 2-1 down to win 3-2 in the corresponding fixture last season, with Moussa Sissoko scoring an injury-time winner.
That win is the Magpies' only victory in the last six visits of Chelsea to St James' Park (W1, D2, L3).
