Going into the final set of games, Chelsea are two points ahead, have a goal difference advantage of one over Arsenal rivals and have scored two more goals.

A 0-0 draw for Chelsea and a 2-1 win for Arsenal would put them level on all three criteria, with the same applying for a 1-1 Chelsea draw and a 3-2 Arsenal win, and so on.

The play-off winner would automatically reach the Champions League group stage, with the team finishing fourth facing a qualifying contest.

However, Arsenal's first aim will be the three points in the North East and Newcastle have only beaten them once in their last 14 meetings, although the Gunners have not won a league match on Tyneside since 2009.

Newcastle midfielder Cheikh Tiote was forced off in the win over QPR with a hamstring problem, but is expected to start.

Moussa Sissoko, striker Shola Ameobi and defender Ryan Taylor are all out with knee problems.

Davide Santon (hamstring), Steven Taylor (illness) and Massadio Haidara (hamstring) could all return to bolster their defence.

Goalkeeper Steve Harper, who has been with the club since 1993, will play his last game for the club at St James' Park as Tim Krul is injured and Rob Elliot is suspended.

Newcastle United prepare to entertain Arsenal at St. James Park on Sunday afternoon, and hold the advantage on previous meetings between the two. Of the 80 games played, Magpies have recorded 40 wins, and Arsenal have come away with 20 victories.

The most recent encounter between these two sides at St. James Park was two seasons ago, in August 2011, when they played out a goalless draw in a Premier League match.

Newcastle

Only relegated Reading and Wigan have conceded more goals than Newcastle's 67 this season.

Newcastle have failed to score in two successive Premier League home games. They last failed to score in three in a row back in August 2007 (six games).

The Magpies have won only one of their games on the final day of a Premier League season in their previous 10 campaigns (W1, D5, L4).

Newcastle have earned 10 fewer points at home this season compared to last season (28:38). They have lost eight home games so far in 2012-13, compared to three in their 19 home games in the last league campaign.

Arsenal

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last nine league matches, winning seven of them.

Arsenal have won four successive Premier League away games. The last time that the Gunners won five in a row away in the league was back in September 2004.

Four Arsenal players have scored 10 or more league goals this season, more than any other top-flight club - it's only the fourth time in the Premier League era that four players from one club have reached doubles figures.

Just four players have reached double figures in both goal and assist categories in the Premier League this season, with two of these Arsenal players (Theo Walcott has 14 goals, 10 assists, and Santi Cazorla has 12 goals, 11 assists).
