Hamburg are hoping strength of will can find them a way into the Europa League next season, even if their destiny is not entirely within their own hands.
Thorsten Fink's men go into the final game of their Bundesliga campaign at home to Bayer Leverkusen tomorrow needing to make up two points on Eintracht Frankfurt, who host Wolfsburg, in what is set to be a dramatic final 90 minutes of the season.
``We are concentrating on our own game and we want to win and give the fans a good game so that we can celebrate with them,'' Fink said.
``We will do that, even if we don't qualify for the Europa League.''
European qualification or not, Fink believes his side can be proud of what they have achieved over the past 12 months.
``A year ago, we were fighting for survival and now we are playing for a place in the Europa League,'' he told his club's official website.
``Nobody would have expected that from us before the season started.
``We have nothing to lose. Only Frankfurt have something to lose and they are under pressure against Wolfsburg.''
Leverkusen have nothing to lose either having already secured third place and a berth in the Champions League for next season.
Bayer's season is not over, however, and coach Sami Hyypia expects full concentration for the final assignment of the campaign.
``We were very pleased with the attitude against Hannover and we want to play in the same way against Hamburg,'' he said.
Hyypia loses his coaching partner Sascha Lewandowski next season as he will return to his former role as youth team coach, meaning the pair will take their place on the bench together for the last time tomorrow.
``It's a shame that he's not going to be around next year,'' said Hyypia. ``I've learnt a lot from Sascha.
