Freiburg are a point behind Schalke, meaning that they need to win, whilst their Gelsenkirchen visitors will feel safe in the knowledge that a draw will suffice – unless Eintracht Frankfurt can claim victory against VfL Wolfsburg by a huge margin.
Both managers will be aware that the match could hinge on the wings, with the biggest battle set to be on the right flank of Schalke and left of Freiburg.
Much of Schalke’s play comes through Jefferson Farfan, who is a real live wire on the right flank, but Freiburg will hope that home advantage and the form of Oliver Sorg and Daniel Caligiuri on their left pushes Farfan back into defending in his own half.
