Swansea forward Michu has knee and ankle problems which could rule him out for up to a month.Goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel replaces the suspended Michel Vorm, while Jonjo Shelvey should return having been absent midweek due to personal reasons.Glenn Whelan and Jon Walters returned to Stoke training on Friday after respective hamstring and thigh injuries and hope to be available. Defender Erik Pieters has a back niggle and is a doubt. There's a well-known quote regarding statistics: "I can prove anything by statistics except the truth."  Managers often use statistics as a means to disguise the fact that their side hasn't played particularly well. Many, in defeat, point to their domination of possession, the corner count and shots on target as a positive. This rarely consoles supporters as they trudge dejectedly from the stadium. The stats don't need much manipulation, however, to illustrate both sides' desperation for three points this weekend. Swansea have four points from their last five games, the visitors just three from their last seven.
Scoring has also been a significant issue. Discounting their 4-0 win over Sunderland, Swansea have only scored eight goals in nine matches this season. Stoke, meanwhile, have registered only four league goals since August and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is their joint-top Premier League scorer.
Author Mark Twain once wrote: "Facts are stubborn, but statistics are more pliable." One undisputable fact is that the home team has won all four of Swansea and Stoke's Premier League meetings so far - and always by at least two goals.
The Swans were the most recent to continue this run with a 3-1 victory at the Liberty Stadium in January.
It was a game in which Michael Owen scored his last goal as a professional, but was merely a consolation as Stoke continued their wretched form in Swansea, where they've not won since 1993.
The hosts will go into the match without two key performers, with goalkeeper Michel Vorm suspended and striker Michu injured.

Head-to-head
All four Premier League meetings have ended in home victories by a two-goal margin.
The Swans won the last clash 3-1 in January 2013.
Swansea have lost only one of their last 16 home league meetings with Stoke (W11, D4, L1).

Swansea
The Swans have only won one of their last 10 Premier League home games.
Michael Laudrup's side have failed to score in three of their last four league matches.
Swansea have only lost three of 12 games against promoted sides in the Premier League (W4, D5, L3).
They have only conceded one goal in five matches against bottom-half opposition (W3, D1, L1).
Wilfried Bony's last league goal in open play came on the opening day of the season against Manchester United.

Stoke City
Stoke are without a win in their last seven league games (D3, L4) and have only won three of 24 league games on their travels since the start of last season.
Goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is their joint top Premier League scorer this season with one goal.
Stoke have yet to score a headed goal in the league this season.
Marko Arnautovic has made 19 league appearances in 2013 but is yet to be on the winning side. It's the longest such record in the top five European leagues.
Jon Walters is expected to make his 100th consecutive Premier League start. It is the longest current streak in the division.
Victory for Stoke would be Mark Hughes' 100th Premier League win.
