Middlesbrough prepare to entertain Blackpool at Riverside Stadium on Saturday afternoon, looking to continue an impressive record. The Boro are clearly on top, having won 19 and lost only 6 of the 30 games.

The most recent encounter between these two sides at Riverside Stadium was less than a year ago, in December 2012, when they eased past their opponents in a high-scoring 4-2 thriller, in a Championship match.

Goalkeeper Jason Steele was forced off a The Valley with an ankle problem but he should be fit to continue in goal while Grant Leadbitter is expected to shake off a knock to feature.

Mowbray will check on Jozsef Varga after he was involved in the squad in midweek as Hungary drew 1-1 with the Czech Republic.

Tom Ince will serve the second game of his two-match suspension for Blackpool.

The much-coveted winger will miss out after he was disciplined for making an offensive remark to an official during the Seasiders' televised Capital One Cup defeat at Preston.

Fellow wide-man Matt Phillips is also unavailable as he continues his recovery from a broken arm sustained during pre-season training.

The visitors could name the same starting 11 that beat Barnsley as they look to continue their winning start.

Head-to-head

Middlesbrough hold a 24 wins to 19 lead over Blackpool, and have scored exactly 100 goals in 58 league meetings spread over 113 years.

Boro secured their first home league victory over the Seasiders in 39 years, with a 4-2 win at the Riverside at the close of last year.

Three months earlier Blackpool had defeated the Teesside club 4-1 on their own pitch.

Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough's 1-0 win at Charlton was only their second victory in 14 league and cup outings.

Tony Mowbray's side have gained only 15 points in 2013 and have also lost eight of the last 14 home games in all competitions.

The Riversiders are targeting their first back-to-back wins of the calendar year, last achieved on 26 and 29 December, home to Blackburn and Blackpool respectively.

Blackpool

Blackpool are hoping to win their first three league games for the second season running.

Paul Ince's side are one of four with a 100% record in the Championship, and one of three with six points after two games.

The Seasiders are yet to win any points from losing positions, but last season they recovered a Championship best 24 points when in arrears.
