Movie Genl Info: The film is based on a story published in a 1999 series of Miami New Times articles written by Pete Collins and compiled in Collins' 2013 book Pain & Gain – This is a True Story, which details the kidnapping, extortion, torture, and murder of several victims by an organized group of criminals that included a number of bodybuilders affiliated with Sun Gym....Michael Bay first announced the film after the release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009). Bay stated he wanted to do Pain & Gain between the second and third Transformers films. However, the project was put on hold when Paramount gave the third film, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, a 2011 release date On February 13, 2012, it was confirmed that the budget for the film would be funded by Paramount Pictures as part of a two-picture deal with Michael Bay, and the budget would be $26 million (making it the cheapest he has ever directed, since his first feature film, Bad Boys (1995)), thanks in part to Bay, Johnson, and Wahlberg's not taking salaries. They instead signed on in exchange for back ends on the film's profits. Bay later confirmed that production would begin in Miami the following April, stating: "I'm extremely excited to simplify my film career this spring with a great character piece.
Storyline:
Based on the true story of Daniel Lugo (Mark Wahlberg) a Miami bodybuilder who wants to live the American dream. He would like to have the money that other people have. So he enlists the help of fellow bodybuilder Adrian Doorbal (Anthony Mackie) and ex-convict, Christian bodybuilder Paul Doyle (Dwayne Johnson). Their kidnapping and extortion scheme goes terribly wrong since they have muscles for brains and they're left to haphazardly try to hold onto the elusive American dream.
Reviews:The film has received mixed reviews from critics. It currently holds a 47% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 123 reviews, with the consensus: "It may be his most thought-provoking film to date, but Michael Bay's Pain & Gain ultimately loses its satirical edge in a stylized flurry of violent spectacle.
by Seth Begley (United States) 6 May 2013. Pain and gain is a very fast paced, entertaining movie . The Rock, Mark Wahlberg, and Anthony Mackie are all hilarious as three stupid body builders who decide to kidnap a lawyer and take all his money. Everything goes horribly wrong as these morons do not know what they are doing at all. This leads to some very darkly funny scenes. Tony shalhoub, Ed Harris, and Rob Corddry are also great in their supporting roles. The movie also has some very good fast paced action scenes that will get your blood pumping. This movie is definitely worth checking out! And I will be buying it when it comes out on video. Oh, and also the fact that this movie is based on real events makes it even more interesting.
