But defeat for either will leave them anxiously peeping over their shoulder at the relegation trap door.
This year has been wretched for both so far. Stoke have picked up just eight points from a possible 42, while Norwich have gained just 13 in the same time. Relegation form.
Both have small squads with players who've over-achieved in the past. Neither has been able to score freely.
Stoke's top scorer Jon Walters hasn't netted from open play since Boxing Day. Peter Crouch has pilfered just two goals since September. Cameron Jerome and Kenwyne Jones have one league goal between them in 2013. The six regular midfield players have chipped in with just six in the league all season.
Matthew Etherington has had an in-and-out season. Without the high quality of service he's provided in the past, they just haven't scored enough.
Up until the New Year, and on the back of a 10-match unbeaten run, things looked sound. They'll have enough to stay up. But then Tony Pulis, harshly criticised by a small minority of the crowd, will have his work cut out to bring in new players to sharpen the quality of the squad. He knows clubs of the size of these two can't afford to stand still in this league.
Norwich's season has almost been a carbon copy of Stoke's. A 10-match unbeaten run in all competitions before Christmas coupled with a first win in seven last week against Reading will probably save them in the end. Even if they lose at the Britannia, they have winnable home matches against Aston Villa and West Brom to come to push through the 40-point barrier.
Again, they simply haven't scored enough goals. Only QPR have managed less than this shot-shy pair. The Canaries have hit just three in their seven away games this year. The strikers have underperformed. At times the defence has also caved in, conceding three or more nine times in all competitions.
