Everton defender Leighton Baines could return on Boxing Day after a month out with a broken toe. Nikica Jelavic is available after missing the win at Swansea with a hamstring strain, while Steven Pienaar and Sylvain Distin should be fit.Sunderland have defensive issues, with Wes Brown starting a three-match ban and John O'Shea doubtful with a shoulder injury. Carlos Cuellar (hip) and keeper Keiren Westwood (shoulder) are still out.For many years Evertonians used to wonder what their side could achieve if they got off to a good start. Traditionally successful as the season wore on, they were left to agonise over those classic football fan statements: "What if?" and "If only".
Now, with just one defeat suffered and confidence sky high, it's not just Champions League qualification that could be beckoning but a title challenge itself.
At Swansea on Sunday, after their spectacular winner by Ross Barkley, you could certainly make out a "We're gonna win the league" chant.
And all this achieved in Roberto Martinez's first few months in charge.
It's a stunning inaugural campaign which, should they beat Sunderland on Boxing Day, will have already gathered him more points than he managed throughout last season with Wigan.
The visitors will arrive in desperate form and against a side they've only beaten once in 17 meetings.
Even in this most open and unpredictable of seasons its hard to mount a case for anything other than a home win.

Head-to-head
Sunderland's victory over Everton at the Stadium of Light in April ended a run of 16 Premier League games without a win in this fixture (D4, L12).
Everton have won their last six league matches at home against Sunderland and scored 20 goals in the process.
This fixture is the 11th Boxing Day fixture between the clubs and the third during the Premier League era. Everton won 5-0 in the only previous encounter played at Goodison Park on 26 December, with Don Hutchinson scoring twice.

Everton
Everton must avoid defeat against Sunderland and Southampton to go unbeaten at home in the league for a whole calendar year. They have only managed this feat on three occasions (1894, 1939, 1962).
Roberto Martinez's side have accrued 34 points so far during the 2013-14 campaign, two less than his Wigan team picked up throughout the whole of last season.
The Toffees have not lost in six Premier League fixtures on Boxing Day since a 4-0 defeat at Aston Villa in 2005 (W3, D3).
Romelu Lukaku scored three goals in two Premier League appearances against Sunderland last season while on loan at West Brom.

Sunderland
Sunderland are on a six-match winless streak (D3, L3), their worst run of form since an eight-game spell without a win at the start of the season.
The Black Cats have the league's 11th-best record against clubs in the top half (W2, D1, L6). Those wins came against Newcastle and Manchester City, their only victories this season.
Sunderland have picked up just three away points this season (D3, L5), the equal fewest along with Crystal Palace.
This is only the second time in 12 years that Sunderland have played an away fixture on Boxing Day.
