The Maple Leafs head to St. Paul, Minn., on Wednesday to take on the Wild at the Excel Energy Center. (7:30 p.m., TSN; Sportsnet 590 The Fan.) Here are some things to know about the Wild:

1. Bad news for the Wild this week: defenceman Keith Ballard suffered an undisclosed upper body injury and will be out at least two weeks. Ballard has already missed two games, but the club said the injury is not related to the concussion Ballard suffered last season. Ballard and fellow defenceman Clayton Stoner did not practice Monday. Coach Mike Yeo said the team has excellent depth defensively and can weather the loss of Ballard and Stoner. Minnesota has first round pick Matt Dumba as a fill in, but Yeo said the club does not plan to make callups at the moment.

2. The Wild lost to the Leafs in Toronto three weeks ago in a game they outshot and outplayed Toronto, by a wide margin at times. The club has three days off before facing Toronto, and has seven wins in its last nine games.

3. Rugged forward Mike Rupp will report for a conditioning sting assignment in Iowa of the AHL as part of his rehab from off-season knee surgery. Rupp will play two games with Iowa before returning to the Wild.
4. Leafs will face a very good goalie in Josh Harding. The Wild goalie was diagnosed with MS last year, and is off to a stellar start thus far this season. Harding is 9-2-2, with a 1.22 GAA (third in NHL) and a .947 save percentage (second in league).
