Northern Ireland forward Dean Shiels is back in contention for Rangers' Scottish League One game against Arbroath on Monday night.
Shiels has been out of action since August with a knee problem but could make his return at Gayfield.
Long-term absentees Andy Little, Richard Foster, Chris Hegarty and Ross Perry all remain on the sidelines.
Hosts Arbroath are third from bottom with 13 points from 13 games. The first Rangers game in the Scottish Cup in January 2012 was disappointing as we never gave it everything we could. However in the three other games I have been pleased with how we went about things especially when you consider we got a draw at Parkhead last year.”
The 39 year olds is in his fourth season in charge of the Red Lichties and his usual approach of trying to outscore the opposition as opposed to overly worrying about them scoring will be adapted for this one.
Sheerin said: “We normally play in a very open way and that usually leads to being open at the back as well. We will change our style for this game and err on the side of caution a bit.  Rangers are scoring for fun so we have to do something to try and stop that.”
“A similar approach worked well for an hour at Ibrox in our league game there. We scored just after half-time and did well for an hour before they got an equalising goal. That gave Rangers a huge lift and they upped the pace and the full time training kicked in and we lost 5-1.”
“However if we can play like we did for that hour, in the entire game, then we have a chance. We also have the opportunity to create a small bit of history by being the first side to take something from Rangers this season and we are using that as motivation.”
Defender Ricky Little and midfielder Connor Birse continue to be missing through injury for the Gayfield side
Rangers look to make it 13 wins in a row in League 1 at Arbroath and manager Ally McCoist expects to have both Arnold Peralta and Dean Shiels available to face the Red Lichties after injury.
Andrew Little continues to be out after surgery on a face wound earlier this month with long term injury sufferers Ross Perry and Chris Hegarty remain out.
McCoist is anticipating a tough contest as he explained: “Arbroath will be fired up for this game. They have the chance to end our great run in front of a live TV audience and I am sure that will give them an increased level of motivation."
”“They will reckon that they have a better chance of getting something as they are at home. We have to match that on what will probably be a tough night for football. It will be cold and Gayfield has an atmosphere all of its own as it is so close to the sea so it should be a great night.”
