England goalkeeper Joe Hart will remain on the bench for the Champions League visit of CSKA Moscow, says Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini.Hart was dropped for Saturday's 7-0 Premier League home win over Norwich City, with Costel Pantilimon starting.Pellegrini said Romania international Pantilimon will continue in goal when City host the Russian side on Tuesday.
Manchester City are likely to qualify for the last 16 if they triumph over CSKA Moscow at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.
Having been eliminated at the group phase in each of their previous two campaigns, Manuel Pellegrini will succeed where Roberto Mancini failed if City beat CSKA and Group D leaders Bayern Munich avoid defeat against Viktoria Plzen.
The reverse fixture in Russia witnessed City come from behind to prevail 2-1, before the game was overshadowed as Yaya Toure was subjected to racist chanting from a contingent of the home supporters.
There has also been talk off the field of who Manuel Pellegrini will select in the City goal after Joe Hart lost his club place on Saturday after one too many mistakes in an error-prone season.
"I don't know when Joe will come back to the team. We will see in the future what we must do," said Pellegrini.
Hart, 26, has been under pressure after a string of high-profile mistakes, the last of which cost City a point as they were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea on October 27.
Pellegrini added: "It is very important for him to have a rest. He has played all the matches in the last two and a half years."
Captain Vincent Kompany (groin) and striker Stevan Jovetic (calf) remain on the sidelines as City seek back-to-back victories over CSKA after a 2-1 win at the Khimki Arena on 23 October.
Manchester City manager Manuel Pelligrini has confirmed that goalkeeper Joe Hart will remain on the bench for their Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow on Tuesday.

Hart's hopes of a swift end to his time on the bench were dashed on Tuesday when Pellegrini confirmed Romanian Costel Pantilimon will retain the starting berth.
Back on the pitch, CSKA enter the clash having never won on English soil, their closest attempt being a 3-3 draw with City's neighbours Manchester United in 2009.
With a nine-point deficit to Zenit St Petersburg in their domestic campaign, the three-point gap between Moscow and City will look far more appealing to Leonid Slutski.
City enter the clash buoyed by their rampant seven-goal display against Norwich in the Premier League at the weekend but face a CSKA side who have registered back-to-back league victories since defeat by the Blues.
CSKA will not be able to reach the knockout stages if they suffer defeat and Bayern do not lose to Plzen.
Costel Pantilimon will start in goal as City look to move a step closer to qualification, but they do so without the help of captain Vincent Kompany.
The Belgian defender is still sidelined with a groin problem while summer signing Stevan Jovetic will also miss out as his injury-plagued season continues.
CSKA Moscow manager Leonid Slutski has his fair share of injury woes ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash at Manchester City.
Pivotal playmaker Alan Dzagoev has been ruled out of the tie while talismanic midfielder Keisuke Honda remains a major doubt.
Defenders Vasili Berezutski, Mario Fernandes and midfielder Aleksandrs Cauna are all sidelined for Moscow.
