Ermin Bicakcic hopes to follow one memorable moment with another as he returns to the nitty-gritty of the Bundesliga with Eintracht Braunschweig on Saturday.
Bicakcic was part of the Bosnia-Herzegovina side which ``wrote history'' on Tuesday by qualifying for the World Cup for the first time.Schalke began poorly but have picked up and have a (3-2-3) record, an emphatic 4-1 home win over Augsburg the latest impressive display. The improved form has come since the arrival of Kevin Boateng who has had a major impact on the team. Farfan (mid) and long term Huntelaar (str) are out missing injured.
Now he is preparing for another first - a debut home Bundesliga win for Braunschweig this season against Schalke.
``It was a milestone in my career,'' he said on Braunschweig's website.
``It was hard work and it took a lot of energy and nerves, but when we went 1-0 up, it was such a relief.
``It's incredible for me and for my entire country. It is only slowly sinking in that we wrote history.
``Next year, I won't be going to the Copacabana on holiday, but to take part in a World Cup.''
And next season, he hopes still to be going to Munich, Dortmund, Leverkusen and Gelsenkirchen rather than Aue or Aalen.
``For that, we need to give it everything and get the optimum out of us,'' he added.
They did that two weeks ago to pick up their first win back in the top flight, a 2-0 victory at Wolfsburg, and that game has sparked a wave of euphoria in the city.
Schalke coach Jens Keller hopes to ``pull the plug'' on that and bring Braunschweig back down to earth this weekend.
``We're going there to win,'' he said. ``We know what to expect. There's always a good atmosphere in this stadium and the fans will try to push the team forwards.
``But really all that matters is the way we play. We want to take this euphoria out of Braunschweig.''
Schalke are still without the injured Klaas Jan Huntelaar, who has been ruled out until the end of the year, and Kyriakos Papadopoulos, who is at least back in training.
Kevin-Prince Boateng is also doubtful with Timo Hildebrand and Jermaine Jones also facing late fitness tests.
