Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole has not travelled to Germany after failing to recover from a rib injury in time.It comes despite Cole training with the Blues squad on Monday, and he will now hope to be fit in time for Sunday's league game against Manchester City.Forward Andre Schurrle (leg) has made the trip as part of a 21-man group.Kevin-Prince Boateng (knee) is set to return for Schalke but Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Jefferson Farfan are among their high-profile absentees.
Chelsea have ground to make up on their German opponents, who lead Group E on six points with Jose Mourinho's side three further back.

Team News:
Schalke coach Jens Keller has identified the 2012 winners, who are playing on German soil for the first time since their Munich triumph, as "one of the favourites for the title", yet insists his side has no reason to feel inferior.
"Just a glance at Group E, as well as our recent results in the Bundesliga, give us self-confidence," said Keller, who should also be able to restore first-choice goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand and Jermaine Jones in midfield for Marco Hoger, who has been ruled out for six months due to a serious knee injury.
"We're at home and Chelsea are going to feel that from the very first minute."
Both Schalke 04 and Chelsea FC are in good form heading into their Tuesday night’s Champions League showdown in Germany.
The German hosts started the 2013/14 season poorly, failing to win any of their opening four games. But, they have staged a decent comeback since then and are currently unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions, four of which have been victories.

They beat Eintracht Braunschweig 3-2 earlier today with a bit of luck as their midfielder Roman Neustädter scored an injury time winner. They are now up to fifth from eighth place in the Bundesliga standings.
Chelsea also were lucky in their 4-1 thrashing of Cardiff City earlier today. They fell behind through a David Luiz-mistake but then found the equaliser through an Eden Hazard-goal, which shouldn’t have stood. Without that equaliser, anything could have happened. Anyway, that win means that the Blues are now unbeaten in their last six games. The only game they failed to win during this run was the 1-1 draw with Tottenham.
Chelsea got a wake up call on the opening day of their UCL campaign when FC Basel stunned them 2-1 at the Bridge. They followed it up with a 4-0 spanking of Steauau Bucuresti. They have wised up and should be okay for the rest of the group stages. The play here is to back Chelsea with Bet365′s DrawNoBet option at a return of 1.73.
