At this moment Russia has an official FIFA ranking of 17, and Luxembourg is 141 in world ranking.

Russia comes from playing previous games against Brazil (FIFA ranking 9) on 3/25 in which they tied 1-1, Portugal (FIFA ranking 7) on 6/7 where they lost with a final score of 0-1, and last game played against Northern Ireland (FIFA ranking 111) on 8/14 in which Russia lost with a final score of 0-1.

The next scheduled games for Russia will be against Luxembourg (FIFA ranking 141) on 9/6, Israel (FIFA ranking 64) on 9/10, and against Luxembourg (FIFA ranking 141) on 10/11.

Luxembourg comes from playing previous games against Finland (FIFA ranking 65) on 3/26 in which they lost 0-3, Azerbaijan (FIFA ranking 117) on 6/7 where they tied with a final score of 1-1, and last game played against Lithuania (FIFA ranking 104) on 8/14 in which Luxembourg won with a final score of 2-1.

The next scheduled games for Luxembourg will be against Russia (FIFA ranking 17) on 9/6, Northern Ireland (FIFA ranking 111) on 9/10, and against Russia (FIFA ranking 17) on 10/11.

Russia had a rare costly error in the last game as hopeless performance in Northern Ireland saw them leave Belfast with a 1-0 loss.  They are still in a decent position in their tough World Cup qualifying tournament. In a group with Portugal and Israel they sit 2 points behind leaders Portugal with 1 game in hand.

They have 4 wins 0 draws and 2 losses from. Beating Azerbaijan, Northern Ireland and impressively Portugal at home. On their travels they have hammered Israel 4-0 but lost to Northern Ireland and Portugal. In the qualifying they have been very strong indeed, defensively rigid and organised as you would expect of any Fabio Capello side. Scoring 8 and conceding just 2 with four clean sheets. Friendly games have been more relaxed with three draws and 1 win.

Russia are another side blighted by a lack of a decent striker. Aleksandr Kerzhakov is the best of the bunch but he can be a bit wasteful. Capello has drafted in Dynamo Moscow strike pair Kokorin and Smolov but the two have hardly been goal laden with just 1 between them in 9 league games this season.

Luxembourg have been a little better in the qualifying round than their usual hopeless selves. Managing to draw 3 and lose just 3 means they seem to be on the upward curve. Drawing with Azerbaijan (twice) and Northern Ireland will boost the side a bit but they have little chance at all of competing in Moscow. A recent win at home to Lithuania shows the tiny nation are getting better but if anything this might give them a false sense and they may try and attack against Russia.

This game looks a certain home win here but by how many Russia score is another thing. With odds very short, it is not worth the outlay on match betting.  Not many markets available here and very little value out there. Russia have been lacking in an attacking sense all qualifying and that’s one thing always levelled at Capello recently.

Luxembourg have only conceded 3 once in the last 6 matches. While Russia have only won by 2 or more goals on two occasions in the last 16 matches. With the huge decider against Israel in midweek I don’t expect Russia to overdo it either.
