Hungarian striker Adam Szalai is the one who’ll replace him, the newcomer is expected to start scoring goals for the blues after the club made a 8 million euro investment to sign him from Mainz.
PAOK Salonika (Greece)
The Greek Super League runners-up will be hoping to reach the group stages for the first time in their history. PAOK reached the last qualifying round on two other occasions, but they failed to eliminate Ajax Amsterdam in 2010 and Maccabi Tel-Aviv in 2004.
However, PAOK are only playing in the play-off after UEFA’s decision to disqualify Ukrainian side Metalist Kharkiv. Metalist had comfortably beaten PAOK (3-1 on agg.) in the third qualifying round.
The decision couldn’t have come better for the Greeks, even if they won’t make it to the UCL group stages, they have a seat guaranteed in the Europa League group stages where they’ve been quite successful recently, having progressed into the round of 32 on two consecutive occasions (2010/11 and 2011/12).
PAOK started the Greek league with a solid 3-0 win over Xanthi on Saturday, which is good for morale, but the game in Gelsenkirchen will be nothing like that.
