But the match will come too soon for defender Martin Skrtel (knee) while fellow centre-back Sebastian Coates (knee) is a long-term casualty and forward Luis Suarez continues to serve his suspension.

County captain Dean Leacock (leg), fellow defender Alan Sheehan (hamstring) and forwards Enoch Showunmi (back) and Danny Haynes all missed the home league defeat to Stevenage on Saturday.

It is unclear exactly what is wrong with Haynes because it was a hamstring strain when he limped off at Walsall nine days ago, which became muscle fatigue after a closer assessment, and now he has described as having a "knock".

Kiwomya said Haynes was going to start against Stevenage until he felt a problem a few hours before kick-off, forcing him to make another change to an already patched-up team.

Notts County boss Chris Kiwomya has fitness concerns over a host of players.

Head-to-head

This is their first meeting in the League Cup.

Notts County have not won any of their last 12 matches against Liverpool, losing nine and drawing three.

They have failed to score in their last five trips to Anfield, losing each time.

Liverpool

They have won the League Cup eight times - all since their first victory in 1981 - which is more than any other club.

The Reds have not won any of their last three matches in the League Cup at Anfield (D2 L1).

Liverpool have kept clean sheets in their opening two Premier League games for the first time since August 2002.

Only Manchester City (12) have kept more clean sheets than Liverpool in the top flight in 2013.
