Newcastle are licking their wounds after derby day humiliation by Sunderland on Sunday and indeed they are still to confirm their Premier League status - sitting just five points off the drop zone.

History, though, is very much on Newcastle's side as the Hawthorns is a very happy hunting ground for the North East giants. In their last ten trips to West Brom they have claimed four wins and lost just once.

Indeed, West Brom have beaten Newcastle just twice in 13 Premier League meetings.

Newcastle will start with Rob Elliott in goal after Tim Krul dislocated his shoulder against Sunderland last week.

The Dutchman underwent surgery and will not play again this season.

Italian full-back Davide Santon missed the derby due to a hamstring problem and he will again be missing.

Ryan Taylor hopes of a comeback this season disappeared this week with a recurrence of a knee ligament injury which could sideline him for another 12 months.

For that to happen they will have to improve an awful away record that has seen them win just once this season, at Aston Villa in January, and take only four points from the last 33 available. They are looking to avoid a fifth straight reverse on their travels.

They face a West Brom team who haven't been out of the top nine all season. Their task in the remaining six matches is to make sure they stay there and cap an impressive first season under Steve Clarke.

It's been a real collective effort but there's no doubt that the form and 13 goals of Romelu Lukaku has played a big part. I watched their last game against Arsenal when the on-loan Belgian spent the first hour on the bench before coming on and totally transforming them.

I'm sure the management team have already had thoughts about next season without him, when he could be back at Chelsea. Indeed, the Baggies only have to look at their opponents for an example of the difficulties of coping without your top marksman, a la Demba Ba this term.

This time last year, Pardew's men had 23 more points and all talk was of the top five and European qualification. What a difference a year makes.

West Brom

West Brom have won just three of their last 13 matches.

The Baggies have won seven penalties in the Premier League this season - only Chelsea (9) have won more.

After winning six of their opening eight league matches at The Hawthorns, they have won just three of the subsequent eight.

They have used the fewest number of players (23) in the Premier League this season, along with Everton.

Chris Brunt is on the verge of a 200th league appearance for West Brom.

Newcastle

Newcastle enjoyed 66% of possession against Sunderland, their highest total of the season, but still lost 3-0.

Newcastle have had a total of 47 shots in their last two Premier League games against Fulham and Sunderland but have scored only once.

They have drawn only one of their last 23 league matches.

The Magpies have used 32 different players in the Premier League this season, more than any other side.

Defender James Perch awaits his 300th club career appearance.
