First broadcast in 1992, the show is the longest-running program in MTV history, and one of the longest-running reality series in history, credited with launching the modern reality TV genre. The series was hailed in its early years for depicting issues of contemporary young-adulthood relevant to its core audience, such as sexuality, prejudice and substance abuse, but later garnered a reputation as a showcase for immature and irresponsible behavior. Following Bunim’s death from breast cancer in 2004, Bunim/Murray Productions continues to produce the program. Each season consists of seven to eight people, aged 18–25 (a reflection of the network's target demographic), usually selected from thousands of applicants from across the country, with the group chosen typically representing different races, genders, sexual orientations, levels of sexual experiences, and religious and political beliefs......Each year, series producers choose a group of seven people in their 20s, from different backgrounds and countries, to live together in a major city. The series presents their spontaneous, unscripted interactions with one another and the world around them. In season 26, seven strangers find themselves in San Diego and though the locale may be sun-soaked and beachy, there are storms brewing. The diverse group includes a Zimbabwean Gymnast, a Professional Football Player, a Nuclear Engineer, a Drag King, a Model, a Bisexual Recent Graduate, and a San Diego Native who, as the youngest in the house, may have something to teach her roommates yet. The endless summer awaits.
