Ajax Amsterdam stand on top of the table in the Eredivisie, but the big rival isn't Eindhoven this time, Vitesse Arnheim are equal on points with them at the moment. Ajax did not start very well to the season, but after six victories in a row they just made it in time for the one month winter break to the top of the table. There are not many real top players at Ajax these day, the Dutch record champions still performed quite well in Champions League, though were out of luck several times and came only third in their group behind Barcelona and Milan. Ajax have the best defence in the Eredivisie, but they couldn't beat any of the top teams so far (Twente 1:1, Arnheim 0:1).
Massive investments were made at the PSV Eindhoven for the centenary last season, still they didn't manage to win a title. Under the former U-19 coach Philipp Cocu they started with a well rejuvenated squad to this season then. And while it looked like they could even play for the title this time, they had to realize that they are far away from that in autumn. Following a 4:0 home victory over Ajax, they could win only one of the next nine league games and dropped down deep to the midfield of the Eredivisie. At least the last two games before the winter break were won, so Eindhoven can at least hope to play international next season. In Europa League they also disappointed this season, came only third in the group behind Ludogorez Rasgrad and Tschornomorez Odessa.
