Southampton full-back Nathaniel Clyne has returned to training following a hamstring injury and will be assessed.Captain Adam Lallana began on the bench last weekend because of a minor injury, but could reclaim a starting spot. Tottenham's Andros Townsend is out with a hamstring injury, while Younes Kaboul and Jan Vertonghen are also sidelined.Midfielder Paulinho serves the second game of a three-match ban, but skipper Michael Dawson is available after serving a suspension in midweek.
A chaotic week of defeat and upheaval at Tottenham isn't about to get any easier with this trip to the south coast to face Southampton.
It all started with that 5-0 drubbing at home to Liverpool last Sunday and while commentating on the match it struck me at the time how poor Tottenham were on the day, even allowing for the absence of half the regular defence through injury and Liverpool's excellent performance. Since then we've seen Andre Villas-Boas swiftly sent on his way, Tim Sherwood minding the shop in the interim and West Ham scoring twice in the last 10 minutes of Wednesday's League Cup quarter-final to compound Tottenham's week of woe.
Sherwood wasn't sure if he'd be taking the team for this one when asked following the midweek cup exit, but I think we can assume he will, while the hierarchy continue the search for a successor.
Lying in wait on Sunday lunchtime will be a Southampton team who've impressed many this season, but have hit a bump in the road lately and are without a win in their last five league games.
Failure to beat Spurs will equal their longest run without a victory under Mauricio Pochettino. But in recent years this has been a fruitful fixture for them, with Saints winning five of the six encounters between the clubs at St Mary's.
However, it was Tottenham who came out on top last season, winning this corresponding game 2-1, and they go into the weekend with the Premier League's joint best away record.
Tottenham are looking for a third win in a row over Southampton but victories at St Mary's are hard to come by. Southampton have only conceded six goals at home all season and three of those came in one match against Aston Villa, who inflicted their only home defeat of the season so far.

Head-to-head
Tottenham won 2-1 away to Southampton last season but they have lost their five other matches at the St Mary's Stadium without scoring.
Spurs are chasing a third successive win against Saints.

Southampton
Saints kept six clean sheets in their first nine league games, but have failed to keep a shut-out in their subsequent seven matches.
They have failed to win their last five top-flight games (D2, L3). If they don't beat Spurs it will equal their longest winless run under Mauricio Pochettino.
Southampton have not won any of the eight Premier League matches in which they conceded the opening goal this season (D5, L3).

Tottenham Hotspur
Andre Villas-Boas won 29 of 54 league matches in charge of Spurs (D12, L13).
He had a higher win percentage (53.7%) in Premier League matches than any other permanent Tottenham boss.
Spurs have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six Premier League matches, conceding a total of 16 goals.
They have claimed 16 points from their eight away games this season. Prior to this weekend, that was the joint best record in the top flight (with Arsenal).
