However, they struggled towards the end of last season and West Brom fans will be concerned with last season’s top scorer, Romelu Lukaku, returning to Chelsea having ended his loan spell. Eyes will now be on new signing Nicholas Anelka to see if he can still pose a strong attacking threat.Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino begins his first full season in charge at Southampton and will be hoping to start the season with a positive result at The Hawthorns. The Saints have strengthened their squad, spending over £20m with the acquisition of defender Dejan Lovran and midfielder Victor Wanyama from Lyons and Celtic respectively.

Team News
Nicolas Anelka is set to make his competitive West Brom debut in Saturday's Premier League clash with Southampton at The Hawthorns.
The 34-year-old, scorer of seven pre-season goals for Albion since joining in July, is one of three new faces added to the squad this summer along with fellow striker Matej Vydra and defender Diego Lugano, both of whom could also be involved in the campaign-opening game.
Wantaway frontman Peter Odemwingie has trained apart from the first team this summer and seems certain not to get a look in, while midfielders Zoltan Gera and George Thorne are not yet ready for selection after their injuries.
Meanwhile, Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino could be without two of his first-choice full-backs for the Premier League trip to West Brom.

Both Nathaniel Clyne and Luke Shaw are struggling with knocks picked up in the latter stages of pre-season but could yet feature in the opening fixture at The Hawthorns. Shaw is the most likely of the two youngsters to be involved with Clyne still recovering from a problem he picked up in Austria.
England's latest goalscorer Rickie Lambert is expected to lead the line but the fitness of Gaston Ramirez and Maya Yoshida was expected to be judged after they travelled long-haul for midweek internationals.
Strikers will be the centre of attention at The Hawthorns as Southampton's Rickie Lambert aims to cap a fairytale week following his dream debut for England.
Nicolas Anelka and Matej Vydra will have other ideas, however, as they prepare for their Baggies bows.
Replicating last season's eighth-placed finish looks a tall order for Albion, whose summer deals have so far amounted to loans and free transfers, in contrast to the Saints who have spent more than £20 million.
