Stella’s worst fears end up being realised as Spector’s murder spree in Belfast continues. Following a run in with a journalist, it causes friction between Stella and Jim Burns, who is about to face the Independent Policing Board. After the body of Spector’s latest victim is found, Stella takes control of the investigation. She is joined by pathologist Professor Reed Smith as Stella's hunt for Spector continues.

When the PSNI are unable to close the case after 28 days, Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson of the Metropolitan Police Service is called in to review the case. Under her new leadership, the local detectives must track down and stop the serial killer who is terrorising the city of Belfast....On February 3, 2012, BBC Two picked up The Fall to series with a five-episode straight-to-series order. The series was created and written by Allan Cubitt and is being produced for BBC Two by Artists Studio and BBC Northern Ireland, with funding from Northern Ireland Screen and the European Regional Development Fund.Gub Neal and Julian Stevens are producing, with Allan Cubitt, Justin Thomson-Glover, Patrick Irwin and Stephen Wright serving as executive producers.
