As these two sides prepare to meet at Carrow Road it's worth remembering that as recently as three seasons ago, this match was actually a League One fixture. So it's a game between two clubs who've come a long way in a relatively short space of time; Norwich winning back-to-back promotions in 2010 and 2011 and Southampton doing likewise in 2011 and 2012.  Norwich, in their second season back in the top flight, are best placed of the two at the moment; eight points clear of the relegation zone.Southampton looked to have given themselves some breathing space following the recent 3-1 home win over Manchester City, but two subsequent defeats leave them just three points above the trap door. The reverse fixture at St Mary's last November ended in a 1-1 draw, Robert Snodgrass equalising for Norwich after Rickie Lambert had opened the scoring, and it's likely to be close this time too.Norwich won their last home game, 2-1 over Everton, but it's the only victory they've enjoyed in the last 11 league matches, and scoring goals has been a problem too. They've failed to score in five of the last seven outings and managed to find the net only three times in that span.

Southampton have been getting used to the differing demands of their new manager Mauricio Pochettino and, despite some promising performances, the win over champions Manchester City has been their only success in six since he took over.

They haven't looked like a side heading for the drop on the occasions I've seen them over the last three months or so, but with only a three-point cushion above the bottom three, they need to turn some performances into points pretty quickly or face a fraught final few weeks of the season.
 Norwich

The Canaries are on a four-match unbeaten run at Carrow Road (W1, D3) but have won only one of their last 11 Premier League fixtures, taking seven points from a possible 33 during this period.
Chris Hughton has never beaten Southampton in a league match as a manager (two draws, one defeat).
Norwich have lost only two of 12 matches against the current bottom half: 1-0 at Newcastle and 2-1 at West Ham.
The club have scored nine right-footed goals in the Premier League this season, fewer than any other team.

Southampton

Saints are in danger of losing three successive Premier League games for a third time this season.
Southampton have conceded 11 goals in six games under Mauricio Pochettino and have not kept a clean sheet since his first match in charge.
The south coast club have let in a league-high 34 away goals this season.
Rickie Lambert has scored 12 league goals this season, more than any other Englishman. He is the only Saints player to appear to in all 28 Premier League matches this season (25 starts).
