Provenance, history and value of the items are discussed. Based on the original British Antiques Roadshow—which premiered in 1979—the American version launched in 1997. In 2005, the American version begat its own spinoff called Antiques Roadshow FYI, which follows the fate of items appraised in the main series. In 2005, PBS introduced Antiques Roadshow FYI, a sister series to Antiques Roadshow. The weekly half-hour show, hosted by Lara Spencer with correspondent Clay Reynolds, provides information on items shown on previous episodes of Antiques Roadshow, as well as additional information on antiques and collecting....It's very, very interesting and even my daughter loved it when she was a tiny kid. Why? Because the stories are so interesting and the appraisals so enlightening. Think about it--folks bring in their knickknacks and treasures to discover if they are actually worth something--and that's most of what the show is all about other than a visit in each episode to a museum or collection for a short interlude in the middle of the show.Appraisers of antiques travel with the show to various cities. Area citizens bring articles for appraisal and often relate the histories of these items. The appraisers then expand on what is known about the treasures, sometimes exposing them as fakes, and they estimate the pieces' financial value. The show also includes tips for aspiring collectors of a wide range of items.

Series Summary:
BBC Antiques Roadshow invites members of the public to have their antiques and collectables examined and valued by experts. Hosted by Fiona Bruce, this show is a roadshow of antiques experts who value heirlooms and antiques that members of the public bring in. The objects range from £10 books to thousands of pounds worth of paintings. The show has been running for decades and many people have been shocked by the worth of objects they thought were worthless. Local people bring along their possessions to be evaluated for authenticity and interest (especially related to the venue) and an approximate valuation is given. Often, the professional evaluators give a rather in-depth historical, craft, or artistic context to the antique, adding a very strong cultural element to the show. This increases the show’s appeal to people interested in the study of the past or some particular crafts, or certain arts, regardless of the monetary value of the objects. At the core though, the focus of the production is on the interplay between the owner and the evaluator.

Episode Summary:
