Ecuador and Argentina meet in a friendly in New York on Friday night as the latter build up towards the World Cup which they’ve qualified for. Ecuador have a poor record against Argentina so they have something to play for in this match which should make it a bit more competitive than some friendlies we see. Despite that Argentina go into the game as the 7/10 favourites with William Hill.

Ecuador have a tidy little side coming along. Luis Valencia is a well known member of the side while Manchester City fans will remember Felipe Caicedo although maybe not all for the right reasons! Ecuador go into the match with just one win in their last eight matches so they’ll be looking for a bit of a pick me up here. Former Everton man Segundo Castillo is another who is in the squad for the Ecuadorians.

Argentina will be without Lionel Messi who is out for a while with injury. Clearly that is a big loss but it will give a chance for someone to step up in his place and it is also an opportunity for the team to show they can perform without the little magician, an opportunity I’m sure they’ll be eager to take. Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain both have plenty of goals in them. Argentina’s defeat to Uruguay last time out ended a 13 match unbeaten run.

Argentina have a good record against Ecuador and even though this match is at a neutral venue I expect that to continue here. Clearly they will be affected by the absence of Lionel Messi but they needed to learn not to rely on him and this gives them a chance to do that. Man for man they look a quality outfit still and while Ecuador are no mugs I expect Argentina to be too strong.

Queens Park Rangers winger Matt Phillips has withdrawn from the Scotland squad ahead of Friday's friendly against USA at Hampden Park.
Leeds striker Ross McCormack was called up on Thursday following the withdrawal of Blackburn's Jordan Rhodes, who picked up an ankle strain in training.
James Forrest, Chris Burke and James Morrison had withdrawn earlier.
Experienced captain Clint Dempsey has been ruled out for the visitors after straining a calf in training.
The 30-year-old had been hoping to impress after being linked with a return to English football on loan from Seattle Sounders, with Aston Villa, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and former club Fulham all linked with the midfielder.

USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann, whose side also play Austria in Vienna on Tuesday, said: "It is a big bummer for us. He is the leader in our group.

"What he has done in the last couple of years for us has been priceless.

"To see him limping off was a real shock to us because he was really hungry for the two friendlies."

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan says he is "waiting on" Watford wide man Ikechi Anya and Derby County midfielder Craig Bryson, neither of whom trained on Thursday.

Earlier this week, wingers Gary Mackay-Steven and Craig Conway were drafted into Gordon Strachan's squad because of the absence of Celtic's Forrest and Birmingham City's Burke through injury, while West Brom's Morrison withdrew for personal reasons.

Dundee United's Mackay-Steven has previously been in senior squads, while Conway, who is on loan at Brighton from Cardiff City, has five caps.

Strachan was disappointed to lose Phillips having planned to hand the 22-year-old a third cap after he was recalled along with Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher and Ipswich Town defender Christophe Berra.

"He's had strange injuries, like a broken arm, elbow, in the last year, but I've seen him recently and he's got a determination about him," said Strachan.

Joe Hart will not start England's friendly against Chile at Wembley on Friday, Roy Hodgson has confirmed.

The manager refused to reveal which of John Ruddy and Fraser Forster will replace the Manchester City goalkeeper.

Rickie Lambert is the latest to be ruled out after picking up an injury in training on Thursday. The Southampton striker joins Steven Gerrard and right-back Kyle Walker on the sidelines.

Chelsea's Frank Lampard, 35, will captain the side in Gerrard's absence.

Manchester United duo Michael Carrick, 32, and Danny Welbeck, 22, have already withdrawn from Hodgson's squad for both the Chile match and Tuesday's friendly against Germany with Achilles tendon and knee injuries respectively.

Hart played in all 10 of England's World Cup qualifying matches but recently lost his place in the City side to Romanian Costel Pantilimon after a series of mistakes.

Hodgson would not be drawn on whether Celtic's Forster, Norwich's Ruddy or both goalkeepers will be given a chance to impress in Hart's absence.

"I will make that decision on Friday," he said.

Ruddy won his only England cap coming on as a half-time substitute in England's 2-1 win over Italy in August 2012, but has conceded 15 goals in his last five matches for the Canaries.

Forster, who also played for Norwich while on loan from previous club Newcastle, has impressed in the Champions League for Celtic but is yet to make his England debut.

The 25-year-old was dubbed 'La Gran Muralla' (the Great Wall) by the Spanish press after playing a big part in Celtic's 2-1 win over Barcelona last season.
With Gerrard and Carrick ruled out, and with Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere's continuing to recover from an ankle injury, Hodgson has confirmed that Southampton duo Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez "will play some part" against Chile.

"I've got to put the performances in front of protecting an unbeaten run," said Hodgson whose last defeat came 10 games ago against Sweden.

"I do need in these two games to have a look at one or two players.

"I need to be wiser in March with regards to some players than I am now."

Lambert, who strained a muscle in training, is also rated as doubtful to face Germany on Tuesday.

QPR central defender Dunne is still trying to overcome the groin complaint which sidelined him for the whole of last season.

Uncapped Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliot retains his place and Reading's Alex Pearce and Brighton's Stephen Ward are also included.

West Ham full-back Joey O'Brien has also been offered a chance to impress the new management team.

Germany head to San Siro on Friday hoping to bring an end to their dismal recent record against Italy.

The Germans - who will be coached by Joachim Low for the 100th time - last tasted victory in this fixture back in 1995 and have since gone on to draw two and lose four of the subsequent six fixtures, only one of which was played in Italy.

Furthermore, Germany have never beaten the Azzurri at a major tournament and continued that trend at Euro 2012, when Cesare Prandelli's men recorded a 2-1 semi-final victory.

Italy were also responsible for the Germans' last-four exit from World Cup 2006, winning 2-0 after extra time before going on to lift the trophy.

The statistics are made all the more remarkable by the fact that Germany currently sit second in the world rankings - six places above their opponents.

However, centurion Low - who has led his side to the final of Euro 2008 as well as the last four of World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012 - hopes that facing his country's bogey team will prove to be the perfect preparation for Brazil, which both teams reached by winning their qualifying groups.

"Italy are tactically world class and the national team still plays at a high level," he told reporters. "The Italians are characterised by their cleverness and efficiency.

"To play against this team was our desire because we can only evolve if we face strong opponents."

Italy coach Prandelli, meanwhile, believesthat his side's friendlies against Germany and Nigeria can help narrow down his squad for next year's tournament.

"There are places available," he remarked. "Many players are motivated; they want to prove that they can be a part of such a group. I have in my mind 35 players so nothing is definite.

"I have a precise idea of what type of football I want the team to play. Seeing as I am not able to work with the team a lot on the pitch, I've had to use official games to understand this. During the games, there will be various interpretations but our reference module will be that of four midfielders."

The national soccer team for South Korea will play against Switzerland on Friday November 15, 2013 (11/15/2013) for International Friendly at TBD (New York time).

At this moment South Korea has an official FIFA ranking of 58, and Switzerland is 14 in world ranking.

South Korea comes from playing previous games against Croatia (FIFA ranking 10) on 9/10 in which they lost 1-2, Brazil (FIFA ranking 8) on 10/12 where they lost with a final score of 0-2, and last game played against Mali (FIFA ranking 38) on 10/15 in which South Korea won with a final score of 3-1.

The next scheduled games for South Korea will be against Switzerland (FIFA ranking 14) on 11/15, Russia (FIFA ranking 15) on 11/19, Switzerland comes from playing previous games against Norway (FIFA ranking 39) on 9/10 in which they won 2-0, Albania (FIFA ranking 45) on 10/11 where they won with a final score of 2-1, and last game played against Slovenia (FIFA ranking 29) on 10/15 in which Switzerland won with a final score of 1-0.

The next scheduled games for Switzerland will be against Korea Republic (FIFA ranking 58) on 11/15, Diario Palm Beach predicts that Switzerland will defeat* South Korea in this match.
South Korea is playing unstable. Indeed, they just won against two weak opponents were Haiti and Mali, a goalless draw against Peru and lost two games against Croatia and Brazil in their last five games. On the other side, Switzerland has a very stable form. They have 14 consecutive games unbeaten in all competitions with 10 wins, 4 draws. In Group E of the UEFA World Cup Qualifying group stages, they have played very impressive with 7 wins, 3 draws, 17 goals scored and conceded just 6 goals. Besides, Switzerland will get the most powerful force for this match with midfielder Granit Xhaka has very high performance at M'Gladbach. I think Switzerland will win at Seoul.

France travel to Kiev on Friday for the first-leg of their World Cup Qualifying play-off match against Ukraine.

Failing to overcome Spain for top spot in their qualification group Didier Deschamps‘ men now face a difficult Ukraine squad in a hostile location, the Olympic Stadium. France, however, enter the match on a strong run of form, winning their last three matches (against Belarus, Australia and Finland) in convincing style.

Les Blues will be led by Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery, who was recently named Best Player in Europe for the 2012-2013 season by UEFA. In an interview on Wednesday Ribery described himself as “fit and healthy” ahead of the match and insisted that France are not taking Ukraine lightly. “For me it’s very important that we qualify. Ukraine are a good team but France have to be in Brazil.”

Another key player for France, striker Karim Benzema, echoed the urgency and seriousness of the play-off. “We will give everything in these two games,” the Real Madrid striker said. “We will qualify, I am sure. There is no choice. At the end, there is the ticket to the World Cup in Brazil – the most beautiful. A World Cup in the land of football.”

A lingering issue for the French, of course, is the poor showing the side gave both on and off the pitch in South Africa 2010. For Ribery, the matches against Ukraine provides a chance for the team to make it up to the fans. “It was difficult for us in 2010 and now we have a chance to make amends.”

From all indications, those amends could be made in front of as many as 2,000 Frenchman scheduled to accompany Les Bleus to Kiev. “There is a relationship that is developing between us and our fans,” said midfielder Rio Mavuba. “They’re behind their team now, and that’s great because we’ll really need them for these two matches.”

Ukraine have also enjoyed good form by taking 13 of a possible 15 points from their last five World Cup Qualifiers. In large part that success has been due to Ukraine’s primary attacking threats, wingers Andriy Yarmolenko and Yevhen Konoplyanka, with the former having scored four times in the group stages.

Yet still, most players on the Synyo-Zhovti recognize they are the underdogs in this play-off. “Their players are all based in the leading championships,” said forward Marko Devic. “We’re not heading into the unknown; we know exactly what we’ll be up against: one of the best teams in the world.”

Two of world football’s greatest players will lead out Portugal and Sweden on Friday night in what is undoubtedly the most high profile of the final four European playoff matches, and the sad fact is that, while one of Greece or Romania will make the 2014 World Cup finals, one of Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Cristiano Ronaldo won’t.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic head into the first leg of their European qualifying play-off in buoyant mood after scoring hat-tricks for their clubs but only one will in Brazil to pull on their national colours.
Twenty other players will take to the pitch in Lisbon, determined to secure an advantage ahead of Tuesday's decider in Stockholm, but the urge not to talk up a duel of two footballing demi-gods - Ronaldo who scored 63 times in 2013 and Ibrahimovic who bagged 30 to help his side to a first French title in almost 20 years - is irresistible.
PSG striker Ibrahimovic played down the hype when he faced reporters, insisting: "We have to concentrate on playing two good games. It's only the media talking about me and Ronaldo; it's the media who are building up the tension around the game."
He has been more ruthless this World Cup qualifying campaign, scoring six goals to Ronaldo's four, and adding six assists but his team-mates know all about the ex-Manchester United star's threat.
Sweden defender Mikael Lustig admitted he would need some help to deal with the former world player of the year, saying: "Support is the secret in a game like this."
"It's about not giving him too much space, too much time on the ball," fellow defender Andreas Granqvist said. "If we can defend as a team and stay tight I think we can succeed. A key to our defence will be to have the nerve to get tight on him, maybe double up so that he doesn't get much time."
Sweden coach Erik Hamsen insists that, with players in "better teams and bigger leagues," his men are the underdogs but Ibrahmovic believes they are more deserving of a place in the hat when the draw takes place next month.
"We have had tough matches during qualification but this has only stimulated us," he said. "Portugal are probably favourites given their team and their individuals, but we came second in a group featuring Germany and we deserve to go to Brazil more."

Romania take on Greece in Athens on Friday in the first of their two-legged play-off to determine which team will go to Brazil next summer and Cocis is well aware of the size of the task ahead.
Greece missed out on an automatic place in Brazil after finishing runners-up to Bosnia in Group G but they emerged with their reputation for strong defence intact after conceding just four goals in their 10 group games.

Cocis told reporters: "This is without doubt the most important and challenging tie of our careers. We really want to get to the World Cup and we will play with all our strength to get there.
"We know Greece's style of play - it is a team that plays defensively and tries to wait for its opponents to make a mistake and capitalise. Our goal is to score in the first game, but even if we draw 0-0 it is a good result for us."
Victor Piturca's side have been hit with a series of blows in the build-up to the game with captain Vlad Chiriches ruled out of the first leg with a nose injury while midfielder Mihai Pintilii was injured on Champions League duty last week.
In addition, regular number one goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu is still struggling to shake off a back injury and new Manchester City No.1 Costel Pantilimon has been called in as a potential replacement.
Piturca said: "Greece are an extremely strong and pragmatic team who play in a remarkable way in order to get results. But we will have our chances and we will go for it."
Greece coach Fernando Santos has emphasised his team's defensive capabilities in the build-up to the first leg and believes his experienced players will hold the key to victory.
Santos said: "We have a lot of experienced players who will know how to win the first match without conceding a goal. The Romanians are an excellent team, but I believe we will be the ones to make it through."

Iceland will bid to become the smallest nation to reach the World Cup finals when they hosts the first leg of their play-off against Croatia in Reykjavik on Friday.
A veteran of six major international tournaments, coach Lars Lagerbäck urged his Iceland players to remain "realistic" ahead of their play-off opener against Croatia Bidding to reach the FIFA World Cup for the first time, Iceland must hold their nerve when they entertain Croatia in Friday's play-off first leg in Reykjavik.
Coach Lars Lagerbäck, an old-timer at this level having guided Sweden to five consecutive major tournaments, has no concerns over his players' temperaments, however. "The spirit has never been a problem with the players, so I don't need to worry about that at all," said the 65-year-old, who took charge of Nigeria for the 2010 World Cup. "They have always shown a very good, positive attitude. However, we must be realistic."

Iceland have every reason to believe they can get to next summer's finals after an eye-catching qualifying campaign which featured five victories and a remarkable 4-4 comeback draw with Group E winners Switzerland in Berne. Their hopes are unlikely to be dented by the adverse weather that has recently swept across the Nordic country.

"The weather is not an issue," Lagerbäck explained. "If it is bad, it will be bad for both teams. Most of the players are used to playing during the winter and in poor weather. If the wind is strong and there is rain and possibly snow, it will be difficult to play. Both teams will need to adapt, though."

Lagerbäck also implored his side to keep their cool, with eight players a booking away from missing the decider in Zagreb next Tuesday. "It's important we don't pick up any unnecessary bookings. We have done much better in recent games, picking up fewer cards. In the last three or four matches, we have shown good discipline which is obviously very pleasing. You can't hold back but I tell the players to remain calm in all situations and avoid silly tackles."

Croatia, meanwhile, are a different proposition under Niko Kovač, who took the reins from Igor Štimac last month. Indeed, Lagerbäck expects the visitors – whom he bills as favourites – to exhibit the traits that made Kovač a successful player. "They will be extremely focused and disciplined, similar to how their coach played," he said. "If you look at both teams on paper, Croatia are the favourites, but anything can happen on the pitch."
