Finding the right balance takes time, and we still have to improve the cohesion of the group. I will not ask my players to focus on goal difference because the important thing is to play to win. Goal difference does not matter that much because it is our duty to win.

What is more difficult – the Italian league or the Champions League? Both competitions are tough; the championship is very long while the Champions League is full of dangerous teams.

This Marseille team has plenty of quality and is physically strong. Perhaps they are lacking a little in confidence, but we still have to play with the right mindset. We are favourites to win but we must not think about this because Marseille have a few players who can make a difference.

Almeria are struggling at the wrong end of the table in 17th place, but three consecutive Liga successes have boosted the team's confidence.

Francisco Rodriguez's charges have seen off challenges from Valencia, Real Valladolid and Osasuna in their past three matches, improving their points tally to 12.

They did that two weeks ago to pick up their first win back in the top flight, a 2-0 victory at Wolfsburg, and that game has sparked a wave of euphoria in the city.

If both teams stick to that ethos and take a measured, patient approach to the game then this will be one of the stranger Merseyside derbies.
Traditionally, this is a fixture in which studs and flesh fly; and by and large that's how both sets of fans and a lot of the players have liked it. There's not much cerebral about your average Merseyside derby.
Somehow, Goodison Park itself seems to encourage the triumph of passion over precision on such occasions. The grand old place can be an even more stirring place than its comparatively modern cousin across Stanley Park; tougher, more raw - and more roar.
Strangely, though, it's often been Liverpool who have dealt better with that urgent, demanding atmosphere; Everton have had eight red cards in the last 12 Goodison derbies, compared to Liverpool's one. It's hardly surprising that Liverpool have won seven of those games.
Everton's failure to score in successive games prior to the international break provoked a grumble or two, even though their sixth place in the table is respectable at the very least. Just don't expect Roberto Martinez to flinch from his belief that passing the ball, rather than launching it, is the best way to win games.
Liverpool are 11 points and 11 places better off than at this stage last season, and keeping Luis Suarez happy is manifestly their first priority.
With that in mind, owner John W. Henry laid on his private jet to whisk the striker from Montevideo to Merseyside following Uruguay's World Cup qualification at the expense of Jordan on Wednesday night.
Suarez has eight goals in seven games for his club this season; "The kid says he wants a jet? Well, what are you waiting for? Give him mine!"

Everton's only win in the last 13 Premier League Merseyside derbies was a 2-0 victory at Goodison Park in October 2010, which was Liverpool's first game under new owner John W Henry.
Everton have lost seven of those 13 games and failed to score in eight (W1, D5, L7).

Liverpool

They have won all seven league matches in which they opened the scoring.
The Reds have scored an unrivalled 16 league goals in the first half of matches this season.
If matches ended at half time, Liverpool would be five points clear at the top of the table.
Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge have both scored 18 goals in 2013, the equal-most in the division alongside Christian Benteke and Robin van Persie.
